weird out of frame errors
i installed the soundpatch and widescreen patch, but theres still errors. the one that irritates me is the out of frame errors. after the intro scene, it loads in the graphic novel, but the buttons to skip/rewind/etc are out of frame. then when i skip it, the loading screen appears, but it is also out of frame, and refuses to load. any suggestions on what to do?

The comics are scaled up to have the buttons out of view, you can press F2 if you want the buttons, but then an other problem arises, because of the widescreen the area for pressing of those buttons with the mouse can be a bit off the actual spot. best to use arrow keys, space and esc keys (do the same as the buttons)
The loading screens sometimes appear shifted down, caused by the widescreen fix, there is nothing that can be done about it, it's a static picture and the widescreen script sometimes does not have enough time to notice that. It does not refuse to load but with the added textures installed loading can take longer than expected, just give it a minute and it will load, or disable the added textures for faster loading.
Of course to avoid any of these you could disable widescreen and play in a (custom) 4:3 resolution, this is how the game was intended.

what if i were to delete the widescreen patch? would it remove those errors or remove the ability to play the game correctly?

you can try, by renaming dinput.dll to for example dinput.bak, if you use a widescreen max will be streched out and look kind of fat ;)
for the added textures, you can rename the data folder to something else like data1 to temporary disable them.
renaming the items back to the original names re-enables them again

I've been looking for a fix for the same problem. No luck though. It seems we either can have the game play not be distorted, or have the loading screens and graphic novel be out of frame.

well you can play without the widescreen fix if you make a custom 4:3 resolution with stretching disabled. you will have black borders left and right, but it will look almost as intended back in 2001 (lcd screens have a slightly different dot pitch as crt did back in the days, that's the 'almost')
