I've been mainly a console gamer most of my life so I know how much certain games are diminished by having to play them on controllers, and even how some genres entirely are diminished.. RTS games being an obvious example of that.
It's smart to incorporate a better control system when a basic controller isn't good enough, PC has been doing that for many years as well, Keyboard and Mouse is great for many games, if not the best control setup by far for many games.
But sometimes for some games a controller is the superior option and many PC gamers alternate between the two when the game just feels better to play on one or the other.
Aside from RTS games, Shooters and first person games in general like Elder Scrolls and Fallout for example also excel with Keyboard and Mouse and controllers are greatly inferior to play those kinds of games.
But then you have JRPG's like old school Final Fantasy games, and Dark Souls feel much better to play on controller.
Nintendo is wise to adopt alternate control schemes to make certain types of games easier and more efficient to play.
It's just a shame they were so unwise with other aspects of this new console.. mainly their greed with the pricing, not just on the console itself but it's online and game pricing as well.
Switch 2 is by far the most anti consumer console Nintendo has ever produced, and it indicates a very bad change in the company's priorities.. though observant customers have noticed indicators of this starting to creep in since the unfortunate passing of Mr Iwata.
Nintendo is not the same company it was 10 years ago that's for sure and it's becoming very obvious now.
Switch 2 will be the first Nintendo console in nearly 4 decades that I will not be buying.. and as I life long hardcore Nintendo fan.. that really hurts to say.
