Is this game fun solo?
I like RTS games like this but I am a casual gamer who just wants to spend 1-2 hours every day playing casually against AI etc.
Is the AI smart enough to make each game session unique?
Is the game moddable? Custom campaigns, mods, etc?

Command and conquer was designed around being played solo. We didn't have fast internet in the 90s.

There wasn't even a skirmish mode in the original.

For an old RTS; it was made for solo. Each mission is unique, and you can mod as well. You should grab the redux mod for the definitive experience. Most of its changes should have already been part of the remaster.

The solo play in this is definitely in the scripted campaign missions, not in the skirmish. But with all the campaign alternates and expansion missions, there are an absolute ton of those, so you won't run out any time soon. And even if you do, there's the workshop, which has tons more.

Skirmish isn't the only way to play solo.

Depends on whether you're referring to Tiberian Dawn or Red Alert.

TD originally never had skirmish, and the skirmish mode added in the remaster is very underwhelming. RA always had skirmish, and it's much better in comparison.

The RA skirmish AI is dumb, but you can customize it for different experiences. If you want to make things more challenging, you can try smaller maps with less ore, playing against multiple opponents that are allied together, or even playing lower tech levels.

Going further, you can learn how to make simple rules.ini mods, though it's slightly easier to customize the difficulty balance in the original game rather than the remaster.

Custom campaigns and mods do exist, just need to look for them. I don't play them, so I have none to recommend.

No kidding. After near 30 yrs, I didn't realise.

which "original" you referring to????

if it is Command & conquer 1, then of course no skirmish mode.

if it is Red Alert 1, then your post is a very misleading post.

since Red Alert 1 got skirmish mode.

"The original" is "the original Command & Conquer", as in, C&C1; the 1995 game. Don't see how that's so ambiguous or misleading.

Fairly sure that was a response to OP; the way OP was talking quite obviously described Skirmish.
