TD originally never had skirmish, and the skirmish mode added in the remaster is very underwhelming. RA always had skirmish, and it's much better in comparison.
The RA skirmish AI is dumb, but you can customize it for different experiences. If you want to make things more challenging, you can try smaller maps with less ore, playing against multiple opponents that are allied together, or even playing lower tech levels.
Going further, you can learn how to make simple rules.ini mods, though it's slightly easier to customize the difficulty balance in the original game rather than the remaster.
Custom campaigns and mods do exist, just need to look for them. I don't play them, so I have none to recommend.
No kidding. After near 30 yrs, I didn't realise.
which "original" you referring to????
if it is Command & conquer 1, then of course no skirmish mode.
if it is Red Alert 1, then your post is a very misleading post.
since Red Alert 1 got skirmish mode.
Fairly sure that was a response to OP; the way OP was talking quite obviously described Skirmish.
