Soviet aftermath mission Deus ex machina ?

Never played this one before it was a good mission somewhat hectic, but I got through it ok via medium difficulty. If I did not managed to save Volkov in time would I have lost the mission then?
I have done all the other soviet aftermath mission now they work better now with the RA1 PlayStation 1 videos I say. I would at a later date do the rest of the missions in counterstrike and aftermath.

If you failed to save Volkov in time, the Allies would reprogram him where he will be hostile against you and team up with the Allies.

If you attack the fake factory while he is still inside, it will tamper with his programming and make him berserk, killing everyone and everything.

If you do as instructed, he will join your side. You won't fail the mission if you didn't recover him. The game just tells you to whack him and finish off the remaining Allies. Simple.

If you need to kill Volkov, an attack dog takes him down in one hit. Also works against the Molotov brothers and the super-civilians.
