I have this feeling that, somehow, the game folder is not to blame itself and I am going to test this by overwriting it without involving Steam itself, brbbreakingshit
EDIT: had no impact on the problem
BTW, the two files that "failed validation and were reacquired" seem to be.... readme.txt and steam_appid.txt
EDIT2: Just repeated the steps I mentioned before that get it working. (i.e. uninstall game via steam, extract my archived copy of the game folder into the correct location and then tell Steam to reinstall)
If I can, I'll determine what seems necessary to break it.
I looked in the logs and there are some errors at the very top of "LogFile_0" saying it can't find some of the MEG files:
Error: MegaFileManagerClass::Add_Megafile() - can't add Data\CutScences.meg
Error: MegaFileManagerClass::Add_Megafile() - can't add Data\Textures.meg
Error: MegaFileManagerClass::Add_Megafile() - can't add Data\UI.meg
Those files are indeed missing from my Data folder, but verifying through Steam doesn't reinstall them... is anybody else who is crashing missing those files?
[edit]
Seems it's the exact opposite; the table never gets generated, meaning its location in memory just remains filled with random junk, and that then gets written to disk.
interesting
lol <3 Chrono vortex... when it spawns such that it doesn't touch my own base
BTW - my diff check didn't just check filenames and/or size -> it checked the contents
I've tried clearing the AppData folder and the MyDocs folder which are the only C&C:Remastered-related directories outside of the Steam folder I am aware of ... to no avail.
I have some logs I could compare but nothing looks obvious.
I think this is somehow a problem with Steam, but I have no idea. It just suddenly started happening maybe a week or so ago.
