I guess, technically, you can? But you'll be missing out on a lot of advanced controls, like the force-fire, force-move and guard area cursor modifiers (respectively CTRL, ALT and CTRL+ALT), the ability to add or remove units to/from an existing selection by holding SHIFT, the invaluable ability to stop units with 'S', making named groups with ctrl+numbers, and a lot more.
That is how i play it,
And if you want to use the specific commands like Nyerguds mentioned.
Which i don't use :-)
and if you want to use the group after you have deselected it then you need to Press the number of the group again
EG: I assign Group 1 by selecting them with the mouse then press CTRL +1
then later on if i want to reselect that group i just press 1
Or you can just use the mouse to reselect them, the groups does make it a lot quicker though
if you have a gaming mouse, you should be able to assign some commands to the side mouse buttons.
Haha nope i just ignore them . They usually get crushed by my big mass of tanks :-)))
Sometimes i will move the group so it can crush most of them, and i usually have a few anti infantry units with my tanks, like an APC
You can select all of the same units you can see by double clicking on them
It's still playable, but like others have said you miss a lot off stuffs like unit control groups, map bookmarks, quick repair or sell hotkey (useful in multiplayer), change jukebox music. Even changing to remastered graphics or skipping the intro scene requires a keyboard.
