Red Alert Allied 5a is impossible

This mission is impossible - before Tanya even emerges from the prison, she will strafed by two Migs from the base directly to the north which reduces her to very low health - there is no way to avoid this. The two Migs will return to the airstrips to re-arm and will immediately strafe her again (also unavoidable), which fails the mission.

In the original game, the Soviet base does not have Migs:

I did this mission on the remastered edition some days ago. I was patient about the dogs guarding routines and moved slowly in. Not sure what of alternatives of mission 5 where must trying maybe it was 5c.

For me its mission 8 that can be case on “hard”.

They will kill Tanya and you will fail the mission, and there is *nothing* you can do about it - if you literally move as fast as you can, they will still take off before you can get there;

Those are Yak's not MIG's and well Yak's should notbe that hard to avoid as they just shoot in a bit of a line so just move sideways in relation to the direction they are coming and they should miss most of their shots entirely

Migs fire missiles that you really can't avoid. Yaks fire a machinegun burst in a straight line, moving 90 degrees to their flightpath will usually let you avoid most of the damage.

Yeah, it's more or less guaranteed that the first strafing run is totally unavoidable (Tanya hasn't emerged from the Prison yet). The second one is impossible to dodge; you can actually avoid the first Yak by moving at 90 degrees to the aircraft, but the second one will come at the same time at a different angle and always get you.

I ended up playing the same 15 seconds of the mission over and over again until I got lucky and managed to destroy one of the airfields before the second strafing run. For whatever reason the second Yak did not attack Tanya and disappeared into the fog of war (but did return to harass some random other units a few minutes later). From there the mission is a cakewalk.

Fairly sure you can force her out early by selecting her and ordering to bomb the structure, actually. But yea, that's an annoying issue...

Not sure what you are doing wrong OP, just now tried to do that specific variant of the mission and even on hard while you doing the tanya part they don't even ahve any planes built, the airfields are empty, and being a bit carefull I could even destroyer the entire part of that base before getting tanya out with the helicopter, yes that includes the empty airfields themselves (unlike 5C, that I did during my playthrough where I could only manage to few structures)

exact same to me. guess it was just a rare bug with your Yaks

mh, did u tried reinstalling or steamchecking for corrupted files? maybe this helps

Just did it yesterday myself and didn't get this issue either. Must be something that only triggers in certain situations?

did it earlier and there were no yaks on the airfields

A and B worked fine for me. It was C that was screwed up. She didn't shoot people from inside or blow up the prison. She simply walked out. When I told her to blow it up, that somehow aggroed enemy vehicles across the map which then drove down to the area to kill her. They apparently scripted 2 versions of the map properly, but not the 3rd.
