CTRL+left click is force fire

By default you can only attack civilians if they are considered an enemy.

GDI cant kill buildings unless you force fire, but Nod can. Good vs evil.

As GDI it varies. By default you cant destroy civilian buildings or kill civis. Only force fire allows an attack on them. But there are some exceptions. In the later and the final mission(s) I noticed, that I actually can attack civilians without CTRL+L.Click.
Must be evil civis....:P

The missions for GDI are kind of weird, theres plenty of missions where your freely allowed to massacre civilians.

In GDI 09, civilian buildings are marked as evil, so you can attack them without Ctrl+LMB. In Nod campaign, GDI tends to actually attack civilians in at least one later mission (I saw them levelling the village in mission to capture Ion Cannon center after I revealed said village by stealth tank).

Yeah it does vary. I think in missions where you can do it there is a story behind it like the town is apart of Nods faction so it can be killed freely by GDI.

The alliances in a lot of missions are messed up. You can see GDI randomly attacking villages in a lot of Nod missions....

GDI doesn't need guns to kill civilians, they just leave them to starve or to succumb to tiberium while their precious blue zones thrive.

Blue Zones are a lie meant to lock the poor out while the rich take the best land for themselves! In the name of Kane!

Something I've noticed is (at least when I'm playing GDI, haven't tried with Nod) is that my units won't automatically open fire on civilians or technicians first. But when they run up to my units and shoot their dinky little pistol at my tanks, then they'll return fire. Pretty sure this didn't happen in the original, where my units would just shoot the technicians first.

Yea, there are some issues with auto-targeting of civilians. Not sure why. There shouldn't be any special logic associated to that; GDI ignoring civilians should be done simply by making them allied with House Neutral, not any kind of property on the actual civilians.
