It's extremely under-appreciated due to the lack of marketing, at the time. There's simply no way to recreate the proper gameplay experience, these days, but people who did play it, back on Westwood Online, had a lot of fun with it, but of course, it's not for everyone. It doesn't help that the "Skirmish" (AI) mode cheats like crazy and always gangs up on any human players… That being said, I was deeply disappointed that Sole Survivor Online wasn't included/recreated by EA and Petroglyph, but not terribly surprised.
I would love to see Sole Survivor Online included as a game mode, in the future. If modders can recreate it, that'd be fine enough, but I'd prefer for it to come from Petroglyph, themselves… even if they completely lost the source code. I'd also be happy with just the Tiberian Dawn units, buuut… if they added the Red Alert units, too, I certainly wouldn't complain! There'd probably have to be a special toggle to allow naval units, though, since ships and subs are a huge part of Red Alert.
