RA 1 Allies 3 A - Engineer
As someone who grew up with the Tiberium games but not Red Alert, I never really played the original. Is there a point to the Engineer you get that is held with the second medic?

You can capture the sub pen, build a transport, and go to another island where IIRC you get two light tanks. You don't need them to complete the mission, but they're there if you want them.
I didn't even see a sub pen. I wonder if I blew it up.

Uh wait, is this the variant where you start with the artillery? If so, I may be thinking of the wrong one.
It is, maybe that's the other mission choice. The only transport I saw so far was the enemy one that unloads units as you're moving nearby.

Hmm okay, so there's pictures of the entire mission map here. I dunno, I guess try capturing the technology center or the command center, see if that does anything. Or maybe the war factory or barracks...I don't remember if you get any money crates...maybe you can build something.

So if you capture the Forward Command Post above the main base, it blows up the two power plants in the bottom right. That is all I found that you can do with the Engineer. I'm not sure what the thought behind that is except maybe using the arty to fire across the river to hit the chain of barrels blowing up the Launcher and making your way up through the middle and around to get your Engi to that building which might disable the flamethrower turrets?

I can't think of any other reason as Tanya out ranges all the infantry and with careful play you can also eliminate all the dogs. Then the Arty can out range any turrets and the tank that spawns in the top right can be avoided by using the arty to blow the bridge by hitting the barrels without crossing either of those.

That explains why I could capture the FCP as it goes red from the barrel explosions.

Yeah i used tanya to blow the barrels, take care of any troops. C4 the tech centre, collect the crate that is revealed, C4 the 2 power stations. Use artillery to get construction yard into the red then captured it with the engineer. Built power and barracks. Got a few infantry units and then continued along. (saved it here) Be careful heading north, missile launcher surprised me and had to reload. Just work at it carefully.

I already finished the mission, I was just really curious what the Engineer was for (as I did it with just Tanya/Artillery). Having not played the original RA the need to reduce a building's health to red caught me off guard as a capture requirement and I just thought there was something scripted that only allowed you to capture the FCP which causes those two power plants to explode.

All good. As someone who had the original games, the need to take the buildings health down surprused me at first too. Hehe. Had forgotten.
