They skipped a barracks, went straight for factory and just went 20+ light tanks.
I couldn't keep up with production with the soviet heavy tanks.
Spamming basic pill box defences seems to work quite well too.
TO answer the question, I'd actually start by buffing the medium tank and gun turret armor to make them more viable against armored rushed. By editing the Rules.ini I also gave the Allies the Phase transport as a late tier unit. I also slightly increased the Apache speed to reflect the Allied doctrine.
As far as new units go?
- Add TOW Missile Jeep. Modified Ranger sprite with Rocket Soldier's missile as a weapon for hit and run strikes, cheaper alternative to light tank but with lighter armor. Early tier unit.
- Add Armored Recovery Vehicle (ARV). Modified APC sprite, no weapon, but comes with a repair ability similiar to the mechanic. Late tier unit.
- Add MLRS. Port sprite from Tiberian Dawn, use stinger missiles as weapon. Tier 3 artillery unit with damage and stats lower than V2 but with higher fire rate.
As for buffing Turrets, actually, Turrets were too strong so they had a cost increase in a multiplayer patch between vanilla Red Alert and Aftermath (aswell as lowering their RoF and increasing their energy use).
Conversely, they actually buffed the Tesla Coil a 50% increase in Health between vanilla and Aftermath in the multiplayer patch. This was back in the day, I believe the remaster uses the nerfed turret and the buffed Tesla Coil. These changes only apply to multiplayer though, so you will not see them in campaign.
Yeah, infantry for the most part suck in Red Alert. They just get crushed. Too many tanks, and tanks in general move too fast. Not worth using infantry beyond Scouting or the occasional early game harass/sneak attack.
To beat a Soviet tank rush with Allies, just mass Light Tanks. You'll have the number and speed advantage, and win. Intercept them early if possible, to ensure they don't just ignore your Light Tanks and chew on your structures.
To beat an Allied Tank rush with Soviet, you will need careful positioning of troops and structures, and may even want to consider rushing a Tesla Coil up if you fear he's going to go straight for your Con Yard. It's crucial you scout early.
N.B. So far every game I've played agianst Soviet as Allies I've won. It has only been other Allied players that have beat me yet. Yes, you can already beat Soviet as Allies in MP. It's about capitilizing on your early game advantage.
