So there has to be one crystal of tiberium left? Because the field is completely clean.. seems a bit strange there's a 'blossom tree' there if it needs already present Tiberium in order to be able to spread, no?
Otherwise what's the point of the tree?

Yes, they do spawn out Tiberium, and the crystals themselves.
