stupidly hard AI. probably cheating.
almost every GDI mission ive played its the same.. i make a smal base.. but they keep coming and coming, 2-3 tanks and some flame throwers every 3 minutes... i dont have enough time to raise an army to atack them cause 80% of what i build dies while protecting the base.. and then i have no tibirium left to farm and all money is gone... so i die.. but they themselves/AI just keeps coming and coming they dont run out of anything those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ basterds... guess i will be trying it out again on easy.

Yeah or you try again and realize better positioning for your base. That's what happened for me on one GDI mission. Either way, harassing their economy is essential. Which mission are you on?

dont remember the name.. right now its boats coming in and i have to disrupt the NODs laser tower.. and seriously better positioning is pointless. my money still runs out , and they still come with endless waves killing off what i got regardless where the hell i open up my base xD

Just a fair warning, I think this era RTS games all have cheating AI. They at least have infinite money, but also can have instant production. The SP missions are hand-scripted to force the player to into a certain strategy. Often this means having to be aggressive early or with few units.

the AI definitely dont have instant production. They are limited to the same production as us, but they do have infinite money UNTIL you destroy the refinery.

The GDI missions ive done you can clearly cut off there money, it just takes a bit for them to spend the last bit but they do run out if you kill there harvester.

only issue here is that they have 4 cannons and one laser... so no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way i can get through tere without 20 tanks. not even that since they have tanks and flamethrowers too. but yea i guess i just have to keep trying, its not impossible to complete ofc..
i mean i do want a challange,, but not being able to make units to be agressive with cause they die as i build them when i use them to protect my place.. and i only have bout 20 min each round then my tiberuim and money runs out is boring. I will try it on easy.

1st thing I did was weld that slider on the left for easy and slow. Now i can breathe and play it for fun. I'm not an OpenRA pro and don't care about balance. Good to know about the AI money/harvester mechanics!

Oh, and to add to my list - let's not forget the old "AI already has a base with towers and adv tech", have at it with this one MCV, Player.

What am I doing wrong then? Every time I skirmish with the AI, at all difficulties, it stops development and just lays down and dies.
Depending on the mission you can pull a big coup if you capture their refinery, which gives you all the money stored in it, and you can do the same with tiberium silos [you can see how full they are from the building, each one captured full should be at least a thousand dollar profit counting the cost of the engineer] and then sell them or let the AI waste shots attacking them while you go on to destroy their production or power. Even better, if you time it while the harvester is in the refinery unloading, you capture their harvester too, which means you might even score another free load or two, and if you get pushed back and they rebuild the refinery that's one less harvester they have. One or two engineers in an APC with a few grenadiers can slide into a base while AI units and base defenses are distracted pretty easily.

The best general advice though is that old singleplayer RTS design really encourages you to do a few test runs so you can scout out the map and see where the triggers for things like reinforcements are. Don't expect to beat everything first attempt. Generally speaking, if you are running out of resources and barely chipping away at an AI base in a mission without making much headway you probably messed up an attack and should give it another go.

I think I know the one. The base is vulnerable from the north rather than go right at the Obelisk laser tower. Their harvester is also mining north of their base. So I massed medium tanks and humvees, got north of their base and went in that way. The Tiberium will help kill their troops too when they come after you.

Obelisk laser towers use a lot of power, so taking down power stations cuts it off. And if you ever have to attack one, best to lead with mass infantry. It will one shot just about anything, so a large infantry group gives it too many targets.

Are you building more harvesters? Don't just rely on the one that comes with the resource center. Early on build a second one, and build more as you see opportunities. I think I had 4 on that mission.

back in the day i started a mission and used a cheat to remove the fog of war and the enemy started with a fully built base and i had nothing so yes they do cheat
The Reaperman Jun 6, 2020 @ 7:27am
Pro-tip from playing it originally...sandbag the enemy harvester. The AI will run out of money and start selling buildings once badly damaged. And because you haven't destroyed the harvester, the AI won't build another. ;)

yes thay copyed same cheating AI thay also place buildings even there no build zone (e.g conyard zone is not there )
