I'm pretty sure an actual remake would sell worse, AND cost a fortune to make.
EA is dumb, but at least they don't hate money.
Modern rts clearly doesn't sell well, the only way to cash in on this genre is to tap into the really old stuff people are nostalgic about.
A remake sounds great on paper, but yeah... many fans would hate an actual remake.
Just look at RTS released in the last 5 years, some are GREAT games, but they just sell like crap.
ok karen
There was literally a video put out from Jim Vessella showing that they could not locate the original source video. So they choose to upscale the console versions of the game cut scenes using A.I. nearest neighbor because it was in mpeg format. A slightly better video compression then the vcd's. During the video and especially at the end, they showed the enhanced video side by side to the original. He also indicated that where this was applicable and where it was not. The handful of cut scenes that were not present in the console version had no way of being upscaled.
If I recall correctly, they do have the original, uncompressed footage for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2, so if those remasters become reality (and I *really* hope they will) the FMVs there are going to look much better.
A Karen is a middle aged mother featured in Reddit stories who boasts a "Show me your manager" hair cut and complaining demeanour. So basically it is Reddit speak. You aren't allowed to ask questions or have a different opinion otherwise you're the enemy when it comes to peoples little nostalgia bubbles of unquestioning authority hahaha Anyway, I have since refunded the game and am happy with my refund knowing the game is average. Might buy the game in the future on sale but I'd prefer just buy a fully modern one as I'm over playing C&C games that look like utter dog crap. Some people just don't like questions being asked, how do you think the Bolsheviks turned an entire country into an iron curtain... oh that's right, time travel and Einstein
They've been upscaled as best as they can be. Only other option would be to redo the scenes, hire new actors..
That said, Motion Capture technology has advanced significantly, and even cheap commercially available programs such as Face Rig could have been used to create a decent looking effect - but they would have needed to put in time and money into creating 3d models for each of the characters, rigging them up for animation, and all in all cost money. Money that, at the time of spending it, may or may not have paid off. So, yes, they could have done better (and, personally, I would have loved to see the cutscenes get a full-digital makeover), but I can understand why they didn't do that and appreciate the game that we did get.
