Has the Original Command & Conquer Aged Well?
Despite the updated graphics, has this game aged well or is it mostly for nostalgia?

My first C&C was Tiberium Sun.

My first PC game was C&C Tiberium Dawn. I replay it once a year through both sides for nostalgia and I just really enjoy it. I have played the first 7 missions of the campaign and I have really enjoyed it. The 4K visuals and animations are just so smooth! The only 2 gripes are the unit selection boxes are too chunky and the Machine Gun Pill Box noise is toned down alot... ha, not really anything then.

Great remaster and happy I spent the money.

Does it feel like downgrade gameplay wise from Tiberium Sun?

I know this is a good game but I'm just not sure on spending money if I have no connection to it.

I am playing c&c on hard atm and finding units to be really dumb they don't defend them self i have seen my troops and the ai just walk past each other or my units will get wiped out by 1 guy because my guys need to walk up to his face to shot him i really don't know whats going on i don't remember the troops being this dumb and short ranged.

Considering Tiberium Sun came out afterwards with a bunch of new features, and that this Remaster is trying to stay as close to the original as possible, downgrade is probably not the right way to think about it.

Honestly not really. You got a 2 hour refund window which should be enough for you to decide.

Its old but fun. If you're used to more modern RTS games you will miss a lot of features. The missions are still really good thou especially in Red Alert.

Personally I still enjoy the gameplay, music and setting but if you have a connection to Tiberian Sun first then it may feel like a step back still, despite the slightly updated ui and unit queuing. Having said that I still feel the music and story of both games still hold up well for me.

Yes, the remaster is a bit worse than Tiberium Sun gameplay wise. Other than the new UI update.

Been playing some of the expansion missions and the only thing you can build that will help you is tanks. Then some adv guard towers to keep your base safe but you don't attack until you got an army of them.

C&C Tiberian Dawn is essentially the "Doom" of RTS in many ways. I would suggest it is worth the $20 when you include the fact that you can:
- Switch in real-time between remastered and original visuals.
- Play all missions released on PC AND consoles
- Access to Steam Workshop Mods
- Access an extensive collection of videos and music tracks

Regarding the gaming - you need to adapt a bit to old-style RTS gaming strategies. Storming the base would be an obvious approach, but only for those who can't imagine more creative ways of getting the job done, such as capturing the base, etc.

Well, its rough compared to how playable most modern RTS games are, but it hasn't aged poorly. The path finding is a little wonky and I miss move/fire but the game has a nice solid foundation, so if you can put up with a game that doesn't really hold your hand (this is a pretty hard rts campaign) and plays rougher then modern ones then I would say its well worth it.

Seeing what they did to this original one makes me want to wish, they will remaster Tiberium Sun too (my favorite in the series)
And yes, it aged well. :)
