But, well, as my original reply here said, the Dune games were licensed, and their license holders would probably not appreciate a project like that, so even though this new project didn't directly use the IP, they probably did try to be subtle about it to avoid getting a C&D.
And subtle and kickstarter don't really mix well...
I think thats the problem here. If you want to kickstart a rts game you need to activate all the old rts fans. Being sneaky will not get you what you need. How about they get the rights to do a video game from the Frank Herbert Dune Estate? Then they can go official and all out and then they will get their kickstart money i am sure.

As much as I love them and played the absolute hell out of both of them as a kid, I can't say that I would ever pick them over C&C TD:RA3. Emperor did some interesting things with faction alliances that I wish they'd taken over in to other games (Tleilaxu were great harassment units) but I was never able to see a campaign through to completion: I'd just get bored and often found the mechanic of only being able to build on bedrock limiting. At least in Emperor they did away with concrete being a requirement to not having your buildings crumble and introduced unit diversity between the factions.
The kickstarter failed to fund anyway, but the dev promises to come back in the future. Hopefully with better marketing.
Always feared my opinion on the last books in the saga were rare. Honestly, the "Oh ♥♥♥♥ we have to finish this" in the last book... It is horendous! It's GOT 8th season bad.
Good to see I'm not alone.
and yes i whould love to see a remasterd version of Dune2k
Both Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle For Dune were outsourced to the British company Intelligent Games, which they had also contracted for making the multiplayer maps in the Red Alert expansion packs.
Would love to see a remake of it too. Hopefully we get a new game based on the upcoming 2020 film? Doubt it, who knows.
