its really not a healthy mindset to constantly compare games in development to already existing games
PZ is one of my absolute favorites and I will say that I have been having a lot of fun with ZED ZONE so far as well, and I'm excited to see where the Developer goes with it moving forward! That said, very different games in my opinion.
I love the struggle to survive ZED has going, the looting and crafting are great fun, which are also things I enjoy with PZ, but they are executed differently for sure and that sort of survival mechanic is something I like in a variety of games.
I was a late adopter with PZ (bought it ages and ages ago but only really started playing it in the last couple years I think) and I wish I had started sooner, so I am glad to be early on this one because I'm enjoying it quite a bit and think it has a ton of potential.
Those are probably the only comparisons I would feel comfortable making between the two though. I don't want to give the impression that one is like the other because that isn't fair to either and ZED ZONE is still in early access for sure.
There is a lot here already though and its all the kind of stuff I thoroughly enjoy:
- Open World
- Maps that Generated with options to customize
- Character Skill Tree
- Looting and searching for gear and materials
- Crafting
- Lock Picking (I always take the option in every game I can)
- Peeing just a little when something jumps you while looting
- Being rudely reminded to pay more attention
- Using ammo like Rambo
- Regrets
- Running
- Sneaking
- Hiding
- More sneaking
- Revenge
The Developer seems to have a lot of passion, they are encouraging participation/feedback from players, and I think that is always promising.
Long story short:
I'm having a lot of fun with it and would absolutely recommend picking it up if you are thinking about it. I feel like I have gotten my money's worth and I have barely scratched the surface so far (I think, I haven't done much but I'm slow lol)
Hope any of this was helpful
This is more of an action packed CDDA game with better execution gameplay wise. Grappling Hook for escape and pulling non large zombies for stun (grappling hook pull trips them) and quick knife execution after if you have knife equipped or deer to you to whack with a machete, Dodge Roll with enough levels of Bullet Time makes you go Max Payne or well a superb escape artist with grappling hook escape, CAS System auto aim assist with bonus damage ala Fall Out style which with bullet time is also crazy. Yeah totally foo king makes Zomboid a flop and a basket of lemons.
Now if they could somehow expand making your own vehicle death tank mobile then shayt.
Zed Zone takes a better balance between survival simulation and game experience, it sometimes gave me a Escape from Tarkov vibe, you have a clear goal and that makes most of your action meaningful after all the suffer.
Need to mention, Zed zone has a much diverse enemy types in the game, sometimes feels like L4D, but lack of crafting system and building is an issue at the current stage of development. that I believe it would be improved in the future.
This game has a better framework comparing to the PZ, I was following PZ since the very early stage of the development, but they proved that they are making a simulator more than a game af. if you wanna have some fun, Zed zone would be your best choice.
There is no better way to relate to another than by describing something new that maybe similar to something old. If it is like apple to oranges, please expand upon that. Your comment is like saying you do not like something, but you fail to give any reason other than just your opinion.
Its like that, but with more crafting, cars and violence than PZ had when it first launched.
I'm liking Zed Zone more than Project Zomboid right now. Over in PZ they keep spending all that time nerfing fun stuff and prioritizing multiplayer over NPC's.
I recommend you watch some gameplay videos to see if you like the game loop and can stomach the bugs.
PS: ZZ is 2 weeks old now, i think.
PZ is over a decade old.
Interesting way to put it. I've been following PZ for a while on and off. But 11 years ago I remember it being pretty rough. I think PZ today looks like a game that's been in development for 2-3 years maybe.
Incidentally one thing that bothered me about PZ is that the gamepad support sucks and the UI is kind of mediocre for what it's trying to do. You can't even access half the functions with a gamepad like game speed settings. How is this game with gamepads?

In case you want to read the road map yourself.
edit: PZ would have died off if community modders didn't hold it up for so long. But don't tell one of the PZ devs I said that, he may decide to ban me again for being a "critic". lol
It's inspired by PZ for sure but honestly an entirely different sort of experience. More combat focus.
that's one of the main reasons i dont like PZ.
We only get 1 the single save file per character/map, so its possible to save just before a bad situation. But we can console in explosives so its easy to recover more or less.
