And it isn't as if it is difficult to figure this out once you have tested it like once or twice. There are MANY things in the game that are NOT explicitly explained and have to be tested to figure out. I think that is a design choice that the devs made. People are used to games holding their hands though so for some it is off-putting. Not saying that's a bad or good thing just something people are used to.
I played the game for like 60+ hours before I knew that you could hold the shift key to purchase all of an item!! Only reason I found that out is I happened to read it here!
