I don't have that exact example, but I finally got the client who wants to pick a lock and doesn't care about noise:
- Explosion III is 210 gold
- Acid III is 385 gold
- Explosion III+Acid II is 479 gold
- Acid III+Explosion II is 532 gold
With my current recipes (which can probably be refined) and without counting talents, haggling and discounts:
- Explosion III costs me 130 gold (profit of 80 gold)
- Acid III costs me 202 gold (profit of 183 gold)
- Explosion III+Acid II costs me 296 (profit of 183 gold)
- Acid III+Explosion II costs me 394 (profit of 138 gold)
Of course, it depends on the exact combo and how efficient you are when making your potions. There's also haggling to consider: Acid III will become less profitable than Explosion III+Acid II when you take into account the fact that haggling will bring more gold on the latter than on the former.
Profit with maximum haggling:
- Explosion III brings a profit of 185 gold
- Acid III brings a profit of 375.5 gold
- Explosion III+Acid II brings a profit of 422.5 gold
- Acid III+Explosion II brings a profit of 404 gold
Both mixes are worth more than single tier III effects. If you consider that haggling will also save you more money when buying expensive ingredients than cheap ones, the more expensive potions to make become even more worth making.
Considering haggling when buying ingredients as well as when selling the potion, here is the profit:
- Explosion III brings a profit of 250 gold
- Acid III brings a profit of 476.5 gold
- Explosion III+Acid II brings a profit of 570.5 gold
- Acid III+Explosion II brings a profit of 601 gold
And that's not even taking into account the trading talent, your popularity and discounts when buying (I'm taking them into account when selling since that's where my numbers come from). So the Acid III+Explosion II potion is probably coming ahead by a huge margin. But I'm not gonna edit my message a fourth time to get those numbers.
By the way, I didn't make the mixed recipes from scratch. I started with a tier 3 Acid or Explosion potion... and while when starting with explosion, you can go back towards the starting position with just water, with acid, you need to dodge bone fields. The Acid III+Explosion II potion probably would be worth even more if I made it from scratch, by going for Explosion II first, then Acid III.
For the Levitation III + Invisibility II one without haggling sells for 967 gold, and up to 1450 gold with haggling. By this point I don't remember exactly how much I spent on materials now that I'm sitting on 80k gold but I'm pretty sure I'm making a profit :)
Thanks! This one also works for the soldier asking for a potion to chuck at enemies in battle.
Would never have thought of this one myself.
Poison III + Fire II also works for people asking for something to apply to their swords to make it more deadly.
The wiki has info on the prices of ingredients, whiile your recipe has info on which ingredients you used. That's what I used for my calculations.
Very good to know now that I have a fairly good recipe for that mix. Still gonna call it a lockpicking potion though.
Just finished calculating the cost of making that Levitation III + Invisibility II and it comes to 580g. Not the cheapest, and I could have been more efficient with it, but that's still a 870g profit so I probably won't bother with tweaking the recipe.
I've never actually thought about calculating the cost of making potions, only focus on haggling and only buying ingredients when they are on a discount, so that's something new for me to think about to increase my profit margin :)
Have you tried reversing the effects? I'd say if Hallucinations II+Sleep III works, Hallucinations III+Sleep II would also work. Which would probably bring more profit.
- Levitation & Invisibility
- Levitation & Bounce
- Growth & Harvest
- Hallucinations & Sleep
- Sleep & Health
- Acid & Explosion
- Magical Vision & Light
- Berserker & Stone Skin
- Poison & Fire
- Explosion & Lightning
- Mana & Healing
Instead of Poison & Fire for the sword guys, Lightning & Fire would net you more gold.
Hallucination & Libido is a combo I just discovered for the customers who say they just got back from a campaign and want to have a good time.
Didn't think of Vision & Light, I'm assuming this is for the people who are foraging in the dark. But I can't figure out who would want the Explosion & Lightning / Mana & Healing combo?
