So...does gta iii support controller (xbox 360 wired) and how well does it support it?

Default support exists but is quite poor. You could try GInput to improve it:

Can't get it to work. followed instructions and it seems to make no difference at all. Any ideas?

ever modded before? put files in their right place and there shouldn't be any issues

i have downloaded ginput for gta 3. ive watched a few people online showing how and where the mod goes but i still can not get it to work

Follow this guide, it installs lots of other fixes + XInput support (Xbox 360, One)

Tried this guide and it still does not work with my xbox controller. Its pritty straight forward but i am still having no joy, a couple of my friends have had a go at other patches for GTA 3 and they can not get them to work.

It is just laughable how bad the controller support for GTA3 is. Just got a 3rd party PS4 controller last week & mapping it in GTA3 is just terrible. I cant even program the thumb sticks for looking arround & moving on foot properly. I can't even use the D pad for anything. Also on foot & in car controlls are poorly distinguished when trying to map them sepratly. Its as if GTA3 Steam is a poorly developed emulator rushed onto PC from PS2. If this was a free game I would somewhat undsrstand although cheap AF now its still a payed game. Kidna wish Rockstar would just remaster GTA3 as well as Vice City like how they did San Andreas on Xbox 360 & PS3.
