Beta. bug or user error
it seems like my races go extinct early on way more often if i don't start them with large numbers, or edit traits before spawning.

Before the update i could start with 5 of a race, sometimes less and they would grow to large civilizations. after update sometimes 50 isn't even enough for a lot of the races.

Anyone have any idea why? It seems like they dont produce enough farms early on? And then maybe don't have babies because they are hungry? havnt been able to narrow it down yet.

I put some information about that problem in this thread. In short, it's a lot of things, you're not making any mistakes. The game mechanics are just extremely hostile to intelligent species now.

The main thing now is their genomes are 'randomized' they should probably start fixed and develop and modify into subspecies naturally throughout playtime if they want the feature to work 'correctly' as it were, though the way it currently works means each individual group of species you place will have their own sorta thing they do good (but its so minor usually it doesn't matter anyways...)
and a lot of species don't have sustainable number of offsprings to lifespan and other stuff- that has to be fixed usually by the player.

Just read your other posts, and wanted to thank you for the info. I guess with an update this big i should have expected some unwanted changes/bugs. i hope they iron some of these things out. Im not a huge fan of micromanaging everyyyyything down to the population of wolves so my settlements don't implode within the first 3 years lol.

You're welcome. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the current state of game balance either. But a mess like this is inevitable with a beta, so all we can do is report our problems and wait.
