throw 500 elves into a volcano, then go to forbidden knowlage, not that hard.

Also no need to say this update ruined the game, if you dont like it then dont play the beta, simple.
You're entitled to your opinion, but seriously? It "ruined the game"? No need to be so hyperbolic about it. Nothing that was already available in the game was locked, just some new features. If you want to unlock them without having to jump through the hoops, download one of the many available workshop maps that make it trivial. You can have everything you want unlocked in under 10 minutes. And for the record, I agree that it's a bit silly to gate the content in a sandbox game, but it's not a huge deal considering how easy it is to unlock this stuff.

didn't ruin the game, but i agree that it's just not a good idea here. i just wanna play around with the stuff, not search for it.

option in the settings to PERMANENTLY enable everything and disable achievements would be good.

it has completely ruined the game, i don't understand why you ppl weirdly defend the fact that the progression system is done in a RPG system, rather than the sandbox that it should've been in the first place

if you say it's silly to gatekeep features in a sandbox game then why tf are you still supporting it?, really don't understand half the community

it's a SANDBOX not an RPG!, like the only role you played was that of a GOD with the power to do whatever you wanted such as observing the AI or helping them along or destroying them whenever you felt like it, like i really don't f*ckin understand why ppl are so damn obssessed with adding strategy or RPG features to what are strictly AI OBSERVATION SANDBOX games

now, it sounds like you have to jump through really dumb RPG style hoops in order to even play the game, which IS NOT the definition of a sandbox at all, a SANDBOX is like a TOYBOX where there weren't challenges and you can just mess around with it

I'm "supporting" it because that's the only part of the update I'm not a huge fan of. I'm a huge fan of literally everything except for the progression system. And, for the record, it already existed in the last update. If you wanted to assign traits to any mob you had to unlock the traits first by finding a mob that had them out in the wild. That's why there are a bunch of "Unlock ALL Traits" maps from a couple years ago. It wasn't my favorite system then either, but I get why he included it, he wants people to experiment with the game and the systems. If it were up to me, I'd probably not have that in place, or I'd just put something in the debug menu to permanently unlock everything. I don't disagree with your takes on it. Sandbox games are about freedom to do what you want and I don't disagree at all that the progression system is out of place and incongruous with that design philosophy. That said, I don't have a problem with the majority of the game, so I'm still enjoying myself despite the minor inconvenience.

Just to reiterate, you can have EVERYTHING unlocked permanently in under 10 minutes and then this wouldn't be a problem again. I highly suggest doing that if the progression system is impacting your ability to enjoy the game. There's a lot of cool stuff to play with.

the problem is, they've made it so much worse than how the system was before the update

before, we had the civs progressing naturally whenever they had the right resources and traits would happen naturally if you were extremely lucky, now we have to "unlock x thing to get x thing" which is not how it should be for a sandbox

I can agree regarding the tech progress, that should be brought back into line with the way it worked before. It was cool to be able to feed a bunch of resources to certain civs while starving others to see how it impacted their technology, and it doesn't seem like that works anymore. And I don't entirely disagree with the point about traits, but they definitely do still function fairly similarly to the way they did before. You had to find creatures with rare traits in the wild before you could use them for yourself, that's where the progression system comes from. Like I said, not a big fan of that either, but I can overlook it now that I have everything unlocked.

Genuinely, I hope the next update addresses some of this stuff for you and people who agree with you. I think it's an incredible update aside from the progression stuff, if you enjoy the game it would suck to miss out on it because of the progression system, but I understand where you're coming from.

same, sorry if i seem pissed off lately, it's just one camp wants to return it to the sandbox it was supposed to be while the other wants to make it even more broken or worse with the way it's done in an RPG style
in all honesty, the devs should roll back the progression system back to how it was before and reinstate the tech progression system

if the devs listened to the right sort of feedback/suggestions and ignored ones that would almost irreparably damage the integrity of the game, this whole mess could've been avoided

Why do you complain about the progression system so much?
Literally just wait a week and download a map with a creature that has all the traits, genes, etc. (Or use forbidden knowledge) You waited 2 years so can't you wait a bit more?

because
1. it completely ruins the game and wrecks the definition of a sandbox it was supposed to be
2. no one wants to have to jump through useless hoops in order to play it when a sandbox is a toybox where you can do whatever you want
3. half the community seem to not understand what sandbox means
Having to unlock them manually can actually teach you a good deal about the interactions present in the game, and as I said, you can spend 5 minutes downloading a map where everything has already been unlocked
