NML Modloader a virus or not? And what should I use as an alternative?

I was trying to get modding to work yesterday, and used GameBanana to get NML. When i downloaded it, i found out that it was outdated and that PowerBox wouldn't work with it. I tried to install a newer version from GitHub, but my browser flagged it as infected with "polyfill.io" i have searched on it, and apparently it is some chinese web malware??? What am i supposed to do to get modding to work?

not infected, my pc works and runs fine i can assure you its fine if not you may take one cookie from my cookie jar and one candy from my christmas sock
