Is Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight worth watching?

I know this seems totally unrelated to this game, but hear me out. I decided this game looks interesting but wanted to watch the anime first. I watched the original and liked it, but I noticed there's a second series called "Chronicles of the Heroic Knight". Its longer and came out some years later (1998 I think). Thing is I can't find any place to watch it in decent quality, and from what I've seen it looks way crappier than the original series. Different studio I think. Certainly not Madhouse.
What I'm basically asking is, can I just play this game now? Am I missing out on anything significant or was the second series just a crappy follow up?

Hi Silenthero I'm a big fan of the Record of Lodoss War franchise and I can honestly understand your opinion with Chronicles of the Heroic Knight.
I enjoyed both the OVA and Chronicles of the Heroic Knight.
Chronicles in a sense is more of a different story version of Lodoss War.
So in a sense its 2 different story versions of the original Lodoss War.
Chronicles of the Heroic Knight story line lead up to another series known as Legend of Crystania.
( Start with the movie and then it had 3 follow up episodes. )

As for this game I bought this game a few days ago and it looks like this game is based of the OVA version because of the story,outfits, and characters you will recognize. That's all I will say about that.
But it is playable with 2 chapters/stages at the moment. Plays like Castlevania SOTN
and just recently got an update which was chapter 2.
If you love the Lodoss War franchise try to buy this game and give it a try sometime.

Here in the US we don't have many ported games from this series.
So it would be nice to see this game succeed and get a port to other systems so new fans can learn all about this classic franchise.

Btw did you know about/play the Record of Lodoss War game that was actually ported for the Dreamcast? It was called a Diablo ripoff by some game critics at the time and most didn't even mention the origin of that game being based off of the manga/anime series.
If you've never played it I highly recommend it! Its fun and they do an amazing job keeping the lore of the franchise.

Like superslug0 said the game is based on the universe of the OVA so there's no reason you can't play it right now. As far as Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, the anime isn't nearly as good as the OVA but still worth seeing if you're a Lodoss fan. The manga for Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, however, is fantastic. Highly recommend tracking it down and giving it a shot.
