Should I watch or read any other media first?
I know this game is part of an expanded world. Is there anything I should read first to expand the experience?

Possibly some hentai or doujin with big elf tiddies in it.

Joking aside.. I believe there is an official Record of Lodoss War short series anime from around the 90's. I still need to watch it myself but apparently it isn't all that bad.

You don't really need to know anything about the larger world. This is a story-light game and one that takes place in what is a separate location unconnected to the events of the anime/manga/novels. There are returning characters to battle against, but they're effectively ghosts/cameos with a line or two of dialog.

The original Record of Lodoss War OVA will familiarize you with the characters and setting. Streaming it on Funimation is probably the easiest way to watch it in the US - not sure about other regions/platforms.

There are actually two anime series from 1990 and 1998 based on the same source material. It is not required to watch either of them but you will appreciate the references in the game more if you are familiar with the characters and lore.

I googled it out of curiosity, can confirm the dub is kinda bad, and Deedlit is actually an annoying valley girl.
It does have the 90's anime charm though.

I would say that entire plot of this game is build upon one tremendous spoiler, so I assume that it won't be bad idea to delve deeper into RoLW story to have better understanding of events prior to the story of this game.

i'd say prior knowledge is not necessary for this game, though it would help flesh out some of the characters' dlalogue a bit more.

The original early 90s OVA was a truly epic fantasy/drama series, with tons of D&D influence. Not surprising because Lodoss War was basically a D&D campaign in Japan.

It originally was just a retelling of their actual D&D games.

I'd suggest watching at least the First Episode of the 1990s Lodoss OVA. If Anyone is looking to get into lodoss I mod the r/recordoflodosswar reddit

First episode is definitely a great starter, but I feel like Deedlit's character gets more interesting further into the series. I really should rewatch, but I just remember thinking she was a lot more cunning and wise than I first presumed, just because she was so smitten by Parn.
