Poison damage is ridiculous
If you get damaged by scavanger matron poison attack even by one hit it's guaranteed instant kill unless you spam several potions which is wasteful. Also the poison duration is so long that if you revived when the duration is still active you get killed again which is absolutely stupid. Your armor also doesn't do ♥♥♥♥ against poison damage.

I suppose the intention is to make the poison a worrying threat rather than a nuisance, forcing you to remake your gear depending on where you're going.
Lorska Jun 11, 2024 @ 6:31am
1) there are perks to reduce poison damage immediately available
2) wards can further reduce it
3) you are not meant to get hit by some boss attacks. Like the brute overhead smash or the matron vial throw

The boss can be beaten by slowly walking around it. It's a joke as a melee build and even archers and mages can just get close and have enough time to attack.

There's literally an easily acquirable item called Antiseptic that stacks up to 50 that instantly cures poison. This is a literal non-issue. If you die to it, it's your own fault unless you're super early in the game. And if you are, you shouldn't be fighting the matron to begin with.

It's a melee screw. Melee gear gives you less protection against magic damage than archery and magic gear. The matron's poison attack does a massive amount of magic damage to targets in melee range. To prevent being killed instantly on hit, you need to swap some of your gear to caster stuff for this one boss.

Holy moo how stupid can I be. There IS an antidote and I was like "oh, ingredient for bandage. cool" instead of using it. I go into my little corner of shame now.

Haha. To be honest it's probably not entirely your fault. The fact that items don't show their descriptions in chests and stuff is a pretty huge issue. The fact it cures poison should be a shown thing in the item info, not just part of the description which is hidden in containers.

The poisoned state really should be cleared when you die.

I agree, just got killed 3 times by matron because the poison status effect didn't end on death.
Death should remove all status effects, be it negative or positive.

And I do agree with OP, the poison is way too strong. For such a large area, 2 volley burst and easily spammable boss ability its way too strong.
Better solution would be to make poison stackable and weaker. So if the player gets poisoned multiple times they would get punished for it.

It certainly removes your food, potion and rested buffs.

Yes it does a good job at removing the positive buffs, but it should also remove the debuffs.
For example elixir crazed debuff does not get removed on death. (the one that decreases shroud time)

What I said before was meant as a universal rule for death, should have clarified a bit.

I was just coming here to post on this. The update definitely upped the poison damage the Matron delivers. While I don't have an issue with this, when I died and respawned, the poison was still raging and killed me in a few seconds because we respawn will 20% health, so two ticks and you are dead again. I respawned again, and it was still going and almost killed me a third time, but the poison stopped just short of death.
Poison should not continue after death, just sayin. : /

You need a scavenger matron head to upgrade the flame to level three. The lowest level one you can find is at the Hill of Scavengers in the Springlands. You don't find the aloe needed to make antiseptic until the Nomad Highlands.
Storm Reaver Jun 12, 2024 @ 2:59am
Easy way to Nomad Highlands. You climb the hills here.

And the black cauldron you need to craft the alchemy station that produces antiseptic from aloe is in the Cradle of Dusk. In the shroud.

As of the new update, Cleaned Bandages now also remove the poisoned status.
And you can find those just lying around quite a lot. So yeah. Poison really is a non-issue.
