Basement building
Is there a way to really carve a basement ?
I find it really anoying even with the hammer tools to even just make a real square basement.
1st person view for it is horrible, no way to control height or distance..

That building interface really need a full rework cause its not enoyable at all at this point

Use the pickaxe to mine out a cave. Then use the building tools to build a room inside the cave. I built one just because I needed some stone and figured I'd kill two birds with one stone.

just plunk down a floor, remove floor, put down new floor, remove floor, repeat repeat repeat. i have multiple structures with pristine square basements dug out with purely hammer and square foundation blocks.

+1 beat me to the answer

what archia says but use the terrain option instead, you don't need to place anything down, just hit right click and it deletes the stone

This is the way.

Foundations are even better to use you can also use these on stuff that is already built to get some better building blocks at the first starter area. you can get alot of building blocks better than starting stone.

if you open building options and go to the 'terrain' options, you will get the 'remove' option for dirt and stone. this is the fastest way i've found to clear out the environment, no pickaxe needed. Of course you can only do this on your base so you can use the construction hammer.

For the record, if you use the pickaxe method, you can build within the hole you dig and then use the rake outside to bring the terrain up to the previous level.

Spot on, also, if you are building high structures, just remember there is no structural integrity so you can just float blocks to stand on while you build.
Why they included scaffolding as a build option I will never understand this.

Having a First Person camera (I swear my stupid head is ALWAYS in the way lol) AND being able to lock Holograms in place (with the ability to "nudge" the hologram around) before setting it would take the building system to masterclass. Right now it's wonky AF, at best.

Your mileage may vary, but I actually love scaffolding. It's a lot easier to me than floating blocks because it gives you ladder access as high up as you need to go and allows you to walk along the build area more easily. But hey, either method is viable.
