Finally figured out the thing that bugs me about house building.
Each floor is about 12-13 feet ceilings which make for really tall 2 story homes.

been bugging me so much why does trying to build a two story house look so bad. Because we are used to seeing about 9ft per floor

also we need roofs that have less extreme slants up. the roofs get silly tall too.

You realize you don't have to use the predefined walls and stairs, right? If you hold ALT and move to the top set of bricks (the smallest set) you can hand craft every block of the house and make the ceilings as low or high as you'd like.

I think the premades have different sizes too.

i know the americans aren't used to metric. but the alt menu has 2m and 4m options
2 metre is just shy of 7 feet. 4metre is just as shy of 14 feet if there existed a 6M option it would be 20feet. ergo if 10feet is one storey you need to stack a 2m and a 4m wall

BUT... most voxel games use 1m cubes. therefore the 2m walls are one voxel game storey

try making a circular home..

As an American, I'm aware that 1 meter is roughly equivalent to 3 feet. This understanding leads me to recognize that constructing with 2-meter blocks does not align with the standard ceiling height in American homes, which typically ranges from 8 to 9 feet. Consequently, 2 meters, being close to 6 feet, falls short of this standard.

In a quick construction I assembled using 2-meter blocks, including a 2-meter window slot resulting in a 4-meter tall window spot, it seems that the 2-meter options are perhaps designed to complement the 4-meter building blocks rather than serve as standalone measurements.

Moreover, the roof slants designed for these blocks have extremely sharp angles, exacerbating the compatibility issue with standard architectural designs.

I don't know if it is just me, is the roof not align with the build pieces? I've been using the predefined 2m blocks snap to grid. I've build a rectangular box and I couldn't get the roof line up at the top with the walls. The longer length sides worked fine while the shorter length sides always offset and don't align with the walls. I have ended up to offset the walls from the grid to make the roof works without looking weird.

i notice when things dont allign up i messed up some where else in the base buiilding and i need to tear a lot down to find where i did a wall or floor off by one block

You can also overlap all elements such as a 4x4m wall, with the top one being a little submerged inside the bottom one. Like half of it.
For door frames that should work as well, it only gets tricky for windows,
but I guess using a door frame right on top of a windowed wall section gets you there as well.

Agreed on the roof pieces =)

Forgot to mention,
you probably have to turn off snapping (X key by default) to achieve merging of building pieces.

Don't always need to turn off snapping, but it usually does helps. One of my favorite things about this build system is that I can customize how tall I want my walls. OP needs to learn and utilize more of these systems. An alternative to what is mentioned is to use the top row 1M and 2x2M wall shapes to trim whatever parts of walls you don't want.

The thing I don't like about house building in this game is that it has no "functional" value.

Meaning that monsters don't attack your home, so the type and resistance of the materials you use are irrelevant. It's all just for the aesthetics.

The comfort mechanics is nice though.

I've must have not did a good clean up job the last time round trying to re align the grid. I've just redone my whole house wipe everything clean, start building outward from the alter, the roof is now lined up. Just an update it is me not the game.

This isn't 7d2d :p

we may get raids later in game development. but im mixed on that, if we get raids, i like to see more NPCs we can save maybe we can get guards and beast master can tame wolves to watch over the flame.
