yeah, it's a pretty damn small window for success. as far as i can tell it's right when the water changes color but before it starts smoking/steaming a lot.
nope, i've maxed relationship with all npcs and am in my third year. nobody has given me a cooking pot. MAYBE there's another random quest still waiting to occur but it seems unlikely. and yes i agree it is incredibly stupid.
i sort of get needing fuel but the costs are pretty high and i personally woulda done it so you just need it to start cooking but then can keep cooking multiple dishes with the one instance of fueling if you have everything you need on you already.
but yeah no making the only cooking spot be way the hell away from the player's storage is HELLA stupid and one of many reasons i cannot recommend this game to anyone despite having played the ♥♥♥♥ out of it myself. so many dumb design choices and bugs all over the place like it somehow didn't get a lick of playtesting.
Honestly, if this game didn't have dinosaurs, it would be kinda awful, imo. 😂
But dinosaurs, so I adore it.
Small tip... I get all the stone, wood, flour etc. into the inventory at the farm (99x3+), then ride over to the cooking pot, then drag and drop those items out of the inventory onto the ground and thus drop them next to the pot (a box container appears). This way you don't have to get the basic "ingredients" every time, you can concentrate on transporting the special ones (i.e. fruits).
This works because "dropped" items seem to stay in the world and are not removed, at least not in my 66h playthrough time so far.
With the latest update, it's now possible to purchase a cooking pot to place on your ranch from Freya!
Freya will sell such a cooking pot, directly via Trade button (so no crafting/ordering required) for 800 Shells. Neat.
