The only time Zara was not in front of her house in the desert town, was when I had finished repairing the entrance the the desert area, and she was standing on the valley side of that desert entrance. Hmmm...
After 70 hours playtime only Zara, Orani and Marlo show being at a ??? location on their Journal->Community pages from time to time. Strange. Judging by how this went with the other main NPCs... it could be vital to find these locations.
(I am playing off a 10h Demo save, should that matter.)
yeah, i'm pretty sure that's what it is, but it's very confusing and frustrating that they can be at that spot according to the journal but not actually there just cuz the random friendship quest hasn't happened yet. like i've maxed friendship with everyone a while ago, zara was at ??? according to the journal, i looked everywhere and never found her. just makes it feel like the game is bugged or something, which is not a good design choice imo.
(This was on a day when Marlo does not visit Pebble Plaza, but instead stays in the forest.)
100+h into the game, got all achievements, everyone is BFF, and still have not been able to track down Zara's other location. I did quite a few of her Town Board mini-quests, but she never gives you an NPC quest that could be related to her other location... so far.
I wonder if this is cut game content, and that Zara actually did have a quest related to that ??? location. Or I have been talking to her at the wrong time of day. Hmmm...
Maybe there is some other NPC involved that needs a talking to... (as that was for Freya/Orani)...
Or this is one of the "last" bugs that happen when you start the full game on a demo save?!
I found this information directly in the game's data:
Zara's 2nd location definitely *is* "Exploring Ariacotta Canyon"... so the question is why have we not been able to trigger it and/or find her in the desert somewhere.
I had the idea that she might be the Mysterious Cactus, in the small side canyon just south of Zara's town home. But I compared the eye colours, and they did not match. Zara's eyes are brown according to the Journal > Community image, and the Mysterious Cactus' eyes are green. Plus when you are standing next to the cactus and open the map, Zara is marked as standing in front of her home.
I tried to interact with the cactus using a sprinter (clearer), slasher, smasher and stomper... did nothing.
P.S. I very very carefully searched the desert area of the game, and simply could not find Zara... I had hoped to find a blocked off passage... but nothing. I did find Freya's Lost Shovel though, a Freya quest post Orani moving into her home.
Theory: Zara's roaming around the desert has a certain time window to it, in terms of gameplay progression... e.g. it might only have been possible before she ended up being your BFF. And now, much later in the game, you will never again find her roam Ariacotta Canyon.
A similar case: Regarding Mira's "Exploring Ariacotta Canyon" location, there you had to talk to her near the southern entrance to the desert dunes. But, IIRC, even then Mira's icon was on the map... whereas Zara's icon is shown on none of the maps when see is at "???".
Quests wait on the player?!
I always assumed, with the progressing of NPC quests, that if you waited more days than the NPC actually made you wait, i.e. they were ready to talk to you about quest again, but you simply missed/ignored those moments... you would always be able to continue the quest line, even months later. Meaning that the NPC's quest line simply was put on hold indefinitely, for you to get back to... I sincerely hope.
It is indeed true that she is not findable in her second location, she's basically roaming 'unexplored areas', similar to Avery. I will make a suggestion to the team about maybe changing the description of this location for her, as it's a little confusing - especially since the same description for Mari means she is actually findable in that area.
Also, it would then be good to have a mechanism, i.e. a dialogue with Zara - (that would probably be one of them when the player first opens up the desert and then talks to Zara) -where this unreachable location name is actually unlocked.
and THIS is the answer,???
Devs what are you thinking you cannot have a, partially, exploration game with this kinda incomplete rubbish situation in it. there WILL be people still looking to get that completed I can only be happy that I caved finally and searched online for the answer at least I can feel glad I made that decision instead of being even more persistent.
NB: To find that you actually know of this since October at least and have done nothing about it is super disappointing.
edit: wait you added the answer as a SPOILER???? why???
did you want people to believe that they should keep on searching around to solve the mystery as if it was solvable?
absolutely mind blowing
I also have 100% all the storylines and become BFFs with Zara, but have been unable to unlock her second location either. Because some players have reportedly been able to unlock this "location", as mentioned in previous posts, this is probably actually a bug.
