How to tell if a dino is rare?

I want to know if when I'm roaming out in the world if I just passed an ultra rare without even knowing it lol. Is there any way to tell in-game other than like, remembering their usual colors.

Remembering usual colors is a good idea, but the way basically everyone checks (including me) is start the flute game, soothe it until it falls asleep, then pull out your journal and study it. A little menu will pop up with some info and it will tell you if a color is rare or not. If you see a dinosaur with a color that seems unusual, always put it to sleep and check just in case c:

As for ultra rares, usually there's at minimum 3 colors. Melanistic (all black with green eyes) and albino (white with a pink hue and red eyes) which obviously stand out a lot, then there are some specific ones for specific dinosaurs. Either way, ultra rares tend to stand out a lot (except one dinosaur who has a regular color for normal dinos be an ultra rare for it-)

I like to put them to sleep and then use the book to check their rarity but typically you can tell by their colors. Most rare or super rare's are obvious they really stand out.

wiki or put them to sleep and look at them with the journal in hand. pure white or black dinos are always ultra rares.
