marlo quest help (so spoilers, obviously)

i have a quest to find where marlo goes at night. i have spent two full in-game nights looking all over dapplewood, and have unlocked several secret-ish areas doing so. can i get some kind of hint? preferably a helpful one, not just 'have you tried looking near his house/in dapplewood' cuz. obviously i have. and i wouldn't be asking if i was concerned with having his hiding spot 'spoiled'.

nevermind, i just had to complain to have him show up apparently XD if anyone else is struggling tho, he's behind the area behind his house, across the road, where the wuerosaurus spawn during spring. (upper right side of the map)

I found the area after a bit of searching, and the Poppin sculpture that's there, but I'm still having trouble finding Marlo. Is there a specific time of night he shows up? Like after midnight or anything? Do I need to ask him about the sculpture first? (Hoping if I complain he'll show up lol)
