In order to unlock them? As in the database? Can't you just bore them and then slowly walk near it while it sleeps till you can journal it?

can't tame them without fragrant poppings no matter how hard you try, that's just how the mechanic works. but yeah if you just can't wait to get them in the journal all you need to do is bore them so you can study them with the notebook out.

i haven't tried it myself, but once you have the poppins you need, if you are still struggling to tame it, you may try cooking and consuming a dish that gives you the 'irresistibly fragrant' buff. i ASSUME this makes it easier to tame dinos that like fragrant flavor.

I am aware how to unlock their journal, and im aware I need to fail taming them to get the poppin recipe unlocked, im asking whats the best strategy to get the arrow to the center of the green cone. Dandelions? berries?

you don't need to fail to tame them to get the poppin, pippin will just ask you for a new flavor suggestion every few days until you get them all.

any plant that has their preferred flavor will move the needle to the right, and soothing them moves it to the left. i have never noticed or heard of certain ones moving it more or less than others. plants that do not have their preferred flavor will move the needle to a random location, which may be good or bad. personally i find that feeding and soothing move the needle way too much to be practical, so i just use disliked treats and pray, lol.

also, again, you can cook dishes that make you 'irresistible' to dinos based on flavor preference, and i assume that would make getting to the good spot on the meter way easier, tho i haven't tried it.

not exactly. pippin asks you what flavor they should try next, so you get to choose what order you get the poppins in. how soon pippin asks for another suggestion MIGHT also depend on friendship (ie how many board quests you've done for pippin and how many things you've bought from them), but i'm not sure on that since i haven't tried NOT farming the crap out of board quests at the start of the game.

you're definitely able to get all poppins by the end of the demo tho, so it shouldn't take more than 2 in-game weeks to get a cory no matter what order you do the poppins in.

As AlphaGodith says, it is time dependent!

Do I need to unlcock the forest section to get him to do it again? Its Cretumnas in game now and I still only have access to cruchy and juicy poppins

Yes, unlocking the Forest unlocks the rest of their Poppin options. This was not the case in the demo at the beginning like AlphaGodith said, but that was updated in a recent patch to make the demo match the game.

You feed it the fragrant poppin to put it in the green, and keep feeding it the poppin until it's tamed. Mine took 3
