A good MP is a plus for some RTS but some, like this, MP does not fit.
While I do agree not every game needs it, but generally RTS sort of games need it, or they flounder desperately without it.
Replayability is key, and MP brings that to the table most of the time, along with the ability of a map editor, and workshop/modding if possible. After all you still see star-craft kicking around strong!
Starcraft is a bad game to measure against, there are far more games that have failed trying to do what Starcraft does than have succeeded. MP replayability can be replicated with skirmish, it is not the be all end all.
And Starcraft is almost as far removed from ST - TC as CoD is. While this is an RTS it is an RTS like how They Are Billions is an RTS, technically true but not in the traditional sense.
Archon mode bombed while Co-op quickly became everyone favorite and another cash cow for Blizzard .
RTS no need to have specific pvp multi to success , modding tool is a must so the community can invent what kind of game they want , be it classic outpost defense or whatever .
We've all been waiting long enough for this game as it is, NOW you want to put it back even further?!! maybe this could be done under an upgrade at a later date, but for gods sake, NO MORE delays please!!
the most popular mode in Starcraft 2 is the Co-op mode (with the Commanders)...
but online is just a pain
Maybe they doing the single first see how well it does then add MP?
And why would you bother to play the losing side? They did this once in their BSG game, playing Toaster just isnt fun at all. That dev time would have ben better for PROPER researching what ships etc. they used and what equipment was used for the BUILD VERSION of the COLUMBIA CLASS instead of wasting it on MP.
Also, who doesn't want to play the bugs? Zerg was my favorite faction in Starcraft and I'm sure many agree it would be fun to play them.
Considering that the game operates under true line of fire and the bugs are melee rush focused with some range units, what would the strategy in the bugs be compared to the M.I.
People seem to believe this game will/should play like Starcraft and it just isn't that type of RTS.

TOTALLY AGREE with you, on both points - The game needs to stay true to the films - if its changed to a Starcraft type of RTS, then it WON't be Statship Troopers!! its as simple as that!!
I think it should play both single player with multiplayer as a separate component like command and conquer did with the different faction story line play throughs. For each campaign mission the bugs faction would have their own version of the campaign with the winning scenario being stopping the mi.
