Am I tripping or is this a complete rip-off of Slay the Spire?
I swear the cards look the same, the UI looks the same, even mechanics seem to be the same. Is it the same developer of Slay the Spire or am I missing something?

gonna be honest buddy: I got no idea what the hell you're looking at, beyond the most superficial "the cards are card shaped" look, as it doesn't really put anything in the same place or display it in the same way as Slay the Spire.

There have been like 100 "Slay the Spire" clones since that game dropped. At least this one has emphasis on distance, and co-op to help differentiate it.

Its also early access so a lot can be implemented to allow it to be more separated from STS.

Your question combined with your profile picture tells me: Yes, you are tripping. Maybe you missclicked and started a different game.

dude, i wanted to make a thread saying the same. cards and ui looks like slaying the spire. i wanted to suggest that they change the art a little, but then i remembered slaying the spire is pretty good. this has more characters and it has coop. i played like seven hours, so i guess they did do something right. its a roguelike deck builder there is only so much you can do in the genre as an indie dev. to me the coop alone makes it worth it. i dont know, i guess they could change the ui a bit, but its visualy a pretty clean representation, so i cant judge them on it being similar to slay the spire.

The only comparison being cards and artefacts it has its own lil story(hoping it becomes more) the cardboard style and unique 3 way mechanic

And since its early hoping for more LvL npc's etc but for the price and what it brings so far its good fun

StS inspired us to make a true co-op deckbuilder in the first place, but the visual card design sources from both our previous game that predated StS (if you find screenshots from the pre-alpha public prototype for Hellcard the visual card design was vastly different, we converged don't he current design over the course of the development by making the original designs simpler for the easy reading).

Did you even play the game?

Slay the Spire? Isn't that a Dominion or Dream Quest clone?

Its not a bad thing for games, code, or assets to build off the work of others. I may not like Vampire Survivors (or its predecessor Magic Survival), but I do like multiple of its "clones" such as the recent Ikki Unite or the fan game HoloCure. A rare few indie games innovate enough to become known for a genre, but that doesn't mean they're the best fit for everybody.

And really? As Slay the Spire-likes go, Hellfire is farther from being a copycat than many others.

When you think about it, every game is really just a clone of pong.

yea, i remember book of demons, got it on steam and on ps4. that game blew me away with its art style and atmosphere. i forgot that cards where similar, i guess, because i looked on it more as a dungeon crawler than a deck builder.

but yea, you gus still got it. this one, in my opinion is alot more fun gameplaywise, especially with coop. great job, i hope the alien game will be another milestone for you, and i hope, that you will implement coop in that game as well, because i just love your style

I know that argument, it's called reductio ad absurdum :archduck:

I think it's ironic all of the "this looks like Slay the Spire" posts, considering this game is designed to look like a specific game, and StS isn't it.

Ahahahah, you're not the only one thinking the cards are identical in design, but I guess it takes the pattern-recognition brain module some people lack.

Reminds me of when everyone says "isn't XXXX just a clone of YYYY" for every dungeon crawler ever made. Games are allowed to be similar, it's how you create a genre. Sometimes the UIs are similar just because it's the best way to utilize the screenspace and things. Why make it harder to play just because it might looks similar? Now if they are down right copying assets and names and things (which I have totally seen) then that's another matter.
Otherwise I say that they were inspired to take a game they liked and make it their own.
