Dragon Boat Race

How do you play the dragon boat race? It's night in the game and when I go to the ferryman to ask to start the game, something pops up but it isn't translated so I can't read it. Also the option to "invite companion" is grayed out and I can't select one.

i had no issue inviting a person each day then starting the game. i got an error on game start but the minigame played fine
