Roommate answers:
Since the developers are going out of their way to not answer questions about it, the roommate system works as follows.

Requirements:
- Must be max relationship with the disciple.
- Home rank 5 (the final stage).
- Complete all of their quests.

After doing so, there will be a new option that isn't translated into English, asking if they'd like to come and relax in the Valley (where you live) for a few days. After they agree, you can then talk to them again and ask them to leave (also untranslated). You can then ask someone else to come relax at your house.

- An exact copy of the disciple's room appears in your estate.
- Their daily schedule remains unchanged.
- At night they go back to your house instead of their own. No new dialogue while there.

There are no romantic undertones whatsoever. The only new unique lines are when you ask them to stay, and when you ask them to leave. There is no actual new content, or content at all, that derives from the roommate system other than what I've mentioned.

The only value I can see in having someone as a roommate is to set someone that's hard to reach such as Song Yantong as your roommate to save time. Though, I question the value in doing so since that person is already at max relationship value and thus you have no need to talk to them daily.

They probably planed for more then they didn't do it for reasons hence a half baked system. :lunar2019piginablanket:

hmm, so does that mean I should wait? Do they plan to continue patching it?

It's not meant to be romantic at all though I agree that it feels lacking so I hope they add things that will make them feel livelier. I have Xie as my room mate and he's pretty much gone all day lol

Mmm, I was just answering past questions I've seen about the system.

And yea, they don't really hang out in the morning, they basically book it as soon as you wake up.

Well in their defense the devs are kind of between a rock and a hard place with Chinese censorship laws. So the options would be either boy/girl only, or "roommates." One thing I'd like to see is, since all of these people already have their own houses, it would be awesome if once they got their room at you place, a little corner opened up at their place for you to put something.

You are leaving out the story options that are revealed on their relationship page, though the only interesting part is the final reveal which talks about the character's future.
IDK, I feel like a lot of the dialogue is heavily romantically coded, and even one character refers to moving in with you as "hiding away in the valley to live with the one they love" so... i guess it's a case of YMMV and no there's no wedding but they give you a ring when they move in and say some pretty sweet things. It works for me.

There are other benefits to inviting roomates; for example, Mu Xia gifts you with a 40-slot ring when you do.

EVERY roommate gifts you with a 40-slot ring
