Does this workaround still work with latest updates? I can't seem to get it to work the 1st save I made failed afted following thd instructions. Q.Q
I'll probably do a windows dualboot setup & see how it goes as I played the game 1st on geforce now which has my saves in the cloud. The game downloads them (found them in the save folder in desktop mode), but ofcourse they won't work. I wanted to see if I could create a save successfully
& then overwrite/replace them with the ones from steamcloud but unfortunately I currently have no Linux skills to speak off (forgot everything after years of having no PC).xD
I don't want to continue playing on Geforce Now either, but it might be a solution for some that bought the game h hoped to playy it on steamdeck, controller partially works on Geforce Now, but I only played it on android so far & didn’t properly set anything up same on steamdeck as I just got my steamdeck recently.
Using Proton-7.Orc6 DOES fix the save issue. Well, to be clear, it lets the game save. I originally had the same idea to make a new save and see where it was sticking it, and overwrite it with my old one. But then I found out that the system wont save properly by default, and even with GE-Proton7-54 it still wouldnt save. Proton-Orc does let it save, but it creates a new folder in the steamapps area named "?????" and drops all the save content there... xD
It does work using Proton-Orc, though. The game is always defaulting back to chinese after I close it sadly. I'm going to try and check the settings of the game within steam, see if I can force a certain language. But for now even if I have to change the language every single time, at least I can play!
Yeah, I noticed belatedly that I'd accidentally used the wrong Proton GE. Using the one OP & you mentioned is indeed the only one that works for saving the game, but I haven't tried much as it's still too complicated for me I think it's due to the others having some change by using Wine enviroment as fake windows but in windows the game doesn't save in My documents/My Games/ Saved Games etc. it only just like on linux saves in the "common" folder & the "User data" in steam this is why the others & latest probably can't find the files nor save the game. I tried creating folders, copying saves & user data, but so far no luck. If someone with expertise can fix this/figure it out, then we can probably use the latest Proton GE & even the issue with the Chinese language on boot would be resolved as the latest 2 versions. (54 & 55 only checked those)
I also managed to get my cloud saves to work by just simply copying to the cloud saves I had to the ???? folder & you could even turn on cloudsave as you can copy & put them in the commons/original location where the cloud save are & sync them back to the cloud that way, but you should make a backup first.
It's funny as you can even merge those files & they'd load in 1 gamefile unless you've too many chars.xD I at first got an error when I tried to sync but it worked as I went from an empty cloud save for that game to the latest saves . For the Chinese language issue I also haven't workaround yet except for changing the game to english in the ingame setting & back out to "title menu" without saving if you don't want to waste a slot/time, but each time you'd need to repeat this & for 1st time players they'd need at least do that 1x if the want to play in English or Japanese. But yeah we can now sync & play at least.
TLDR; Proton 7.0rc-6-GE-1 can save the game it'll create a folder called "????" if you have saves in cloud you can transfer them to that folder & they'll work just fine even if you turn on cloudsave, wanna sync then copy transfer them back to cloud save folder. I actually kind of like this way as at least the don't suddenly get deleted with the prefix if you delete Proton like with the later versions.
Edit: New 1st time players: New Game (top of 2 options)>Press "M" as soon you gain control of your char to change language>return to menu>start new game in your preferred language that way, check screenshot for more info:

Do you get any error messages, how exactly is the game acting if you don't mind me asking?
I don't know if the directions differ or not, but the dev team released its own 'official' guide to getting things to work on the Deck a couple of weeks ago. Hope it helps:

They copied things from this thread and just added screenshots I think TS was even mentioned, so it doesn't differ in directions.
