Resident Evil Village

This game is ridiculously stupid!
After RE 7, I realized I am not into the new direction the series is taking and prefer the remakes of the original titles so never purchased it and boy, was that the right move. I recently managed to play this game with a buddy of mine, sharing turns and couldn't believe how off the rails the series has gone. This game literally takes the "boulder punching ridiculousness" and ratchets it up x10 and stretches it into a full game. From the very start it felt like I was lost in a child's interpretation of a fantasy book. I mean I get that RE was never a very coherent narrative but this was just ramblings of some on hallucinating on shrooms!

Don't get me wrong, the game looks gorgeous at the start and the werewolf zombies(?) feel like a genuine threat when first introduced but once you get to the castle things start winding down considerably. Given all the hype around Lady D, I was expecting some tense challenges and puzzles but turns out it was mostly the sex appeal of her busty figure that had everyone praising. The only area that was remotely interesting was the second castle with the doll maker but it was very short lived and we didn't even realize that we had a boss battle. It was all downhill after that.

The gameplay was a little too linear and simple. There was never any real puzzles to solve or anything requiring you to think beyond the combat which is mostly making sure you have enough bullets to shoot at things. You just need to follow the path laid out in front and things will happen. Not having the means to pick a lock or turning a crank just simply meant following the main path that will eventually provide you with what you need later. Eventually you will hit a hub like area that allows you to explore a few side areas with hidden boss fights and some info tying into the story but you don't really get to chose where to go in the main path as its all laid out for you.

The story is just utter garbage. While the end somewhat connects some of the dots it doesn't do it well and the explanations are just flimsy. Even the game pokes fun at itself for the lack of explanations in some areas and its never really addressed. It even retcons some of the events from RE 7 to crudely shove in a piece of the story that doesn't really fit and literally just drops any attempt at cohesion towards the end. I also don't understand capcom's fascination of shoving in heavy action elements into the series where you are suddenly just massacring the entire areas with COD type weaponry and ammo. I used to think Code Veronica and RE 6 were some of the weaker parts of the series but compared to Village I think they were atleast a little more faithful to the theme than this was. This was also the end of Ethan Winters, a character that has no face or personality beyond a pair of mutilated hands which perfectly compliments the state of Village as a halfbaked entry to the RE series. Given the positive reception of this game I don't have high hopes in the next entry in the series. Who knows maybe you will be playing as an elf in the north pole trying to take down Black Peter who is an infected version of Chris with the alphabet virus F.

I just finished Alan Wake and Alice in 3rd person.

Do you mean Alice: Madness Returns? It's a rare thing to hear anyone mention that game. Even more rare to hear of American McGee's Alice...

Village was some of the most fun I've had in a RE game, and I was a fan since the 90s. The game also looks absolutely phenomenal.

OP is an over-the-top cynic. If they actually played RE5 they would find out that Ethan Winters is mentioned in a memo by Spencer, the original founder of Umbrella. They attempted to kill him as part of a cover-up and even classified him as deceased. Faked death. Ethan is one of the Top Secret access employees to many illegal projects inside the company. The ending of RE8 connects everything back to RE5 with the original Progenitor Virus in RE5 dating decades before RE1 and RE0. That was the whole entire point.

Miranda knew Spencer directly before he created Umbrella. She had her own vision of ruling the world just as Spencer did. The difference is she uses the Cadou which is a hybrid mold and nematode parasite. Cadou is fundamentally a modified mold version similar to Las Plagas but grants the host additional abilities like the C-virus.

Something that OP failed to understand apparently or skipped all the reading content. The game is fine as it is. RE6 is an absolute circus to the point even the developers knew it was bad. It was solely created to cater towards online game-play. The new RE4 remake lost what originally made it great and hallowed out its atmosphere with forgettable music and lack of ambiance.

At least with RE8 the characters and story are rememberable along with the atmosphere. The hidden motif in RE8 that seems to go over a lot of people's heads is that the villains in RE8 are homages to Vampires, Death, Swamp Monster, Frankenstein and Werewolves. The four legged wolf/lycan is a human injected with Cadou and wolf blood. This was even written out on paper as lore for the player.

You can't correct other people by trying to disguise an obsolete fan-theory as fact.

There's no Ethan Winters in RE5. There's an "Ethan W.", one of the top level researchers involved in the Progenitor research in Africa, and that file is from around the time of the Raccoon City destruction in 1998. That Ethan was already a high clearance researcher in the 90s, working with Spencer who knows for how long. RE7 takes place in 2017, so the ages don't add up. Ethan Winters was just an ordinary guy working as a system engineer before the RE7 events.

"hidden"?

You mean the thing people have been whining about non-stop since the trailers came out?

"Werewolves and vampires aren't RE!" has been a constant thing from them.

No. The motif is to the original horror stories. People complaining about werewolves and vampires not being RE are people who do not understand what Resident Evil is even about. This is not "Zombie Evil" or "Resident Zombie." Resident Evil / Bio-hazard is about B.O.W.s and surviving around environments/creations of evil.

It's really not as subtle as you seem to think it is.

The game literally beats you in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ face with it.

This was literally the first resident evil that I disgusted to play . I played like 20 minutes and every second I was thinking if I was playing super mario that would be more fun. extremely bad graphics, clumsy movements, unbelievable bs story, even the monters look like they needed to add 2 more layers of graphics then they just didn't.whats up with those super large stupid people?did they eat super mario,s mushrooms or something.i mean if they just called it something else not resident evil then it might have been more acceptable but this was beyond my belives how bad it is in every aspect.even uncharted 4 from 6 years ago looks extremely better than this.after those beautifully done re2 and 3 remakes, this was straight up kick in the nuts.they knew it's a stupid game and won't sell as a new different game so they just called it resident evil and tbh it worked . I bought it and it sold many millions copies but this was a lesson to watch reviews and gameplays before I flush my money down the toilet.

So in other words, you didn't even finish the intro to get to actual gameplay.
