This game is ridiculously stupid!
After RE 7, I realized I am not into the new direction the series is taking and prefer the remakes of the original titles so never purchased it and boy, was that the right move. I recently managed to play this game with a buddy of mine, sharing turns and couldn't believe how off the rails the series has gone. This game literally takes the "boulder punching ridiculousness" and ratchets it up x10 and stretches it into a full game. From the very start it felt like I was lost in a child's interpretation of a fantasy book. I mean I get that RE was never a very coherent narrative but this was just ramblings of some on hallucinating on shrooms!

Don't get me wrong, the game looks gorgeous at the start and the werewolf zombies(?) feel like a genuine threat when first introduced but once you get to the castle things start winding down considerably. Given all the hype around Lady D, I was expecting some tense challenges and puzzles but turns out it was mostly the sex appeal of her busty figure that had everyone praising. The only area that was remotely interesting was the second castle with the doll maker but it was very short lived and we didn't even realize that we had a boss battle. It was all downhill after that.

The gameplay was a little too linear and simple. There was never any real puzzles to solve or anything requiring you to think beyond the combat which is mostly making sure you have enough bullets to shoot at things. You just need to follow the path laid out in front and things will happen. Not having the means to pick a lock or turning a crank just simply meant following the main path that will eventually provide you with what you need later. Eventually you will hit a hub like area that allows you to explore a few side areas with hidden boss fights and some info tying into the story but you don't really get to chose where to go in the main path as its all laid out for you.

The story is just utter garbage. While the end somewhat connects some of the dots it doesn't do it well and the explanations are just flimsy. Even the game pokes fun at itself for the lack of explanations in some areas and its never really addressed. It even retcons some of the events from RE 7 to crudely shove in a piece of the story that doesn't really fit and literally just drops any attempt at cohesion towards the end. I also don't understand capcom's fascination of shoving in heavy action elements into the series where you are suddenly just massacring the entire areas with COD type weaponry and ammo. I used to think Code Veronica and RE 6 were some of the weaker parts of the series but compared to Village I think they were atleast a little more faithful to the theme than this was. This was also the end of Ethan Winters, a character that has no face or personality beyond a pair of mutilated hands which perfectly compliments the state of Village as a halfbaked entry to the RE series. Given the positive reception of this game I don't have high hopes in the next entry in the series. Who knows maybe you will be playing as an elf in the north pole trying to take down Black Peter who is an infected version of Chris with the alphabet virus F.

This has become my favorite RE game. I haven't played RE4 remake yet except for the demo, but I didn't see anything there that would make me think it was better than this one. Not saying it's bad in any way of course.

That's just it. The shooting range is out of place in a village but its a tiny mini game you can just ignore (if you are not fussed about prefect scores and trophies). It would be something else if the entire game was basically at sea with pirates singing sea shanties. Besides Ethan comes off as a complete dimwit and the really stupid choices he makes towards the end brings about his own end.

I think the biggest factor for myself is that I started with 7 and Village. So I had nothing to compare them to other than what they actually are.

I'm ready to try 2 and 3 the next bundle sale. I heard things about 3 but that's ok, I can hang onto it for a rainy day or something.

But if Subnautica goes on sale first, I'm getting that. I hear the game has some scary moments in it. Even though it looks colorful and all.

I was just playing the demo for 3 and changed my mind.

It looks great and runs great but I can't get use to their 3rd person view. The camera is too close or ontop of the character too much. Spinning around I was seriously getting dizzy. Maybe sitting farther away and playing it on a TV would be better.

I just finished Alan Wake and Alice in 3rd person. It seems having more distance from the character is easier on the eyes.

It's ironic how some people say they can't handle the first person view, oh well.

Yes and that reveal is one of the main reasons why I find Village ridiculous. I am sorry its just retconning the events of 7 to crudely fit this story is just too much for me. Its pretty ridiculous enough that Ethan is able to refit his hand back together like a jigsaw puzzle, the wolves only slightly more menacing than the mold in 7 and lady D is just a reskin of Big Daddy Baker with the opposite reaction to fear its just way too stupid for me to accept. Its like taking Chris's boulder punching douchebaggery X 10!!

Haven't beat the game yet, but Mercenaries looks pretty cool.

Most of the time, he uses a controller. In this he is using a mouse with high sensitivity.

edit:

Using a slower gun, but it still looks kinda easy.

Why does my brain hurt now from reading through the comments of back and forth banter of what seems to be a dramatic and drawn out pissing contest? I get it. This person doesn't like it along with many others in the same category of dislike. Others like it with a plethora of people that do like it as well. Open and shut case. Thanks for the good read all in all.

Resident Evil Village is first and foremost an offensively dumb movie/game. The boss fights are boring, shallow and very scripted. Fighting in a tank vs the trench coat ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is heartbreakingly bad. To make matters worse, can you even lose that fight? The Beneviento area is a walking simulator. Getting "chased" by a stupid scripted caterpillar baby is embarrassing. Fighting a cringy doll with a one button QTE is very lazy. Walking through cutscenes at a snail's pace has always been a bore and there's too much of that here. The areas are large but mostly bland, empty and with very little to discover. The puzzles might as well solve themselves, why even have any? The enemy variety is lacking, although it is a few step up above RE7. The shooting of weapons ranges from mediocre to fine. But I just started DOOM 3 and it makes the shooting in Village seem downright awful. Not to mention DOOM 3 is scary and I get to play the game and not simply be a spectator like I am with Village. This "game" should only entertain the dumbest of people. I have played it like 8 times already in hopes of getting the achievements, but if it were not for that. Once would be enough.

This here is someone who has never played doom 3.

This is a stupid thread. It was GOTY ffs... it's 95% overwhelmingly positve.

What are you, the 4 people in the world that didn't love this game?

you are ridiculous.

I think everyone who used to troll 24/7 on IMDB threads now live here.
