How to resolve the bug introduced by the recent patch for Resident Evil Village

The most recent patch, distributed on October 14, 2022, led to some unexpected behavior preventing the launch of the game. A method has been found to resolve this issue using the software on your PC. If you have been affected by this issue, please try following the steps below.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

----------
Please locate the Resident Evil Village listing within your Steam Library.
Right-click it, and select "Properties."

Please select the Additional Content (DLC) tab, and uncheck the box located beside the following DLC items:
Resident Evil Village - Winters' Expansion
Resident Evil Village - Street Wolf Outfit
----------
The game should now work as normal.

Once the Winters' Expansion has launched on October 28, please re-enable the DLC items by returning to that screen and re-checking the box for the items.

Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience to you, our devoted fans.

Sincerely, the Resident Evil Village Dev Team

FIXES 🔧
(3RD PARTY FIX/NON-DLC OWNERS) 'FluffyQuack' has created a dedicated discussion regarding the REFramework solution. Reportedly, the latest nightly build of REFramework resolves the startup crash but DLC detection/performance instability issues still persist. Much less of a fix and more of a workaround until Village devs drop a definitive follow-up patch. Definitely worth a try nevertheless. Btw, do check out Fluffy's thread while you're at it, he's definitely more knowledgeable and 'qualified' to comment on the technicalities of the game than me by light-years.

The most recent patch introduced a major bug that prevents many people from running the game as it crashes after start-up. I think owning specific DLC triggers it, but I'm not sure.

Praydog updated his RE Framework tool which has a fix for the issue.

Try this to fix the issue:
- Download RE8.zip from here: https://github.com/praydog/REFramework-nightly/releases/tag/latest
- Extract it to where RE8 is installed
- Delete the openvr_api.dll and openxr_loader.dll files as those are only for using VR functionality with RE Framework
- Run the game and it should now function as normal

Capcom introduced new anti-tamper code with the new patch that checks for modifications made to the game's code and then prevents itself from running if any is detected. I could be wrong, but I think the issue people are facing is due to that new anti-tamper code not working correctly.

(STEAM FIX/UNVERIFIED) One possible fix for owners of the Winters' Expansion DLC is to refund said DLC for now. According to some, the game continues to function as per normal thereafter.[/list]

[UPDATE: Unable to verify the efficacy of the abovementioned fix myself. Some players who do not own the DLC have also reported identical issues with their copy of the game. On the other hand, those who have refunded claim that their issues were fixed. In other words, not owning the DLC in the first place doesn't mean you're safe but players removing ownership of it could probably fix their game. I'm rly on the fence about this one so I'll just leave this here in case anyone wanted to check for themselves.]

KNOWN ISSUES ⚠️
  • Data incompatibility/game restart warnings followed by CTD for most cases
  • Failure to detect DLC content
  • Game crashes for those with Reshade installed
  • External mods (fov modifier, vignette disabler etc) no longer function
  • Reportedly, owners of the pre-order Winters' Expansion DLC are affected by the issues brought about by the said patch (UNVERIFIED)

TROUBLESHOOTING 🖥️

Text size for subtitle can change and show Dot Crosshair has been added in option.

And I get game crashed on start if using Reshade.

And in game at Sell page of Duke's Shop now can swift between minimum/maximum number of selling items.
