Denuvo, Protecting Me From Myself
I went on a plane trip with the steam deck, only to find the "Steam is offline" message stopping me from playing RE8. So unless I found someone's wi-fi to reconnect with Steam, I couldn't access my own game? That I paid $80 for? Someone please rationalize this.

If it's saying "steam is offline", that's not denuvo.

The denuvo message gives a link to a codedfusion site.

You can play for I think a week at a time offline until you need to renew the antitamper again. Just start the game on internet and it resets it.

So there's a timer that stops you if you don't renew once a week? That's news to me :steamfacepalm:

Yeah, it's not like the one EA put on Mass Effect Legendary Edition (some 15 year old games) where you have to be online all the time just to play it

But yeah afaik if you start this now and then online it won't screw with the game

Denuvo timers aren't strictly a week. They can be whatever the developers set for it. I've seen some that are upwards of a month between required check ins with the server.

But, still. If it's not giving you a popup with a link to a codefusion site, that's not denuvo stopping you from playing.

More likely steam its self needing to check in. Had you booted the game at all on the deck since installing it?

Yeah, the day before the popup happened. But I installed "reframework" between launches. So if the files change in any way offline, maybe it messes things up?

I doubt it, but, the game as a whole has been a bit weird since the dlc pre-patch came out in... what, october?

Isn't it ironic that Valve's Steam won't let you play games on Valve's Steam Deck in offline mode?

Denuvo makes online checks and if they shut down the server completely it dies as a whole. Denuvo is cancer that’s why i bought the game physically for ps5. Denuvo only hurts honest customer and doesn’t stop piracy no drm does. I hope capcom changes their mindset at some point at least they remove it after some time. If you have standards you never support this

Denuvo shouldn't exist. Until the brainwashed kiddies understand that it makes as much sense as a time limit in Zelda and start contributing to the backlash, we're all screwed.

Agreed. Please remove it, publisher!

Why would a pirate be here to buy the game when it was "liberated" from its DRM in July of last year?

You should probably look things up before posting, it makes you look very foolish.

The DLC isn't "liberated"

Every time they update the game: "Denuvo is cancerrrr!!!" Even though it plays fine

You are very incorrect on the first one, and on the second: Performance is not a concern for me, and never was. The way Denuvo works makes it problematic for some systems in a way that other DRM is not, which is my personal issue with it.

Many people have other issues with it that are also not performance related -- that is just the one aspect that people assume, and are often wrong as a result.
