Your comparisons to RE7's dlcs are also not fair. Re7 always had planned dlc during development of the main game, which is why they left out main plot points such as Zoe, Clancy and Lucas baker from the main game so they could use them in separate dlcs. This allowed them to plan, design and create whole new characters and areas for the dlc alongside development of the main game for like 3 years.
The thing with RE8's dlc is that there NEVER was any planned dlc AT ALL. They decided to make RE8 a complete package without leaving out plot points, no loose ends, it was only after the release of the main game and huge success that tons of players asked for DLC. This means the devs had only started to come up with the idea, write the story. design the gameplay, design the levels, enemies, characters, then animate everything, mocap and VA etc., ALL AFTER RE8's release and THEY DID THIS IN ONE YEAR.
Therefore, it makes sense they would reuse assets and characters they already have for this dlc and I think they used it pretty well imo. I enjoyed every bit of Shadows of Rose dlc.
You complain about Rose speaking out her problems well Rose is a 16 year old teen who's been bullied all the time, no surprise she would act like she does in the game, I definitely don't find her annoying at all, she acts fine to me.
Also they charge you 20 bucks not only for Shadows of Rose but also for Mercenaries Additional orders mode which added 3 new characters and several new maps. Also third person mode. Reasonable price imo.
From my poing of view, it doesn't change anything storywise at all. Rose has her power in the beginning -> she has it at the end, Duke becomes a villain -> turns out to be another Miranda's illusion, Eveline is alive and being a histerical unstable kid -> she lives and remains a histerical unstable kid, Miranda turns out to be "alive" -> still dies the second time at the end.
I don't actually mind any reuse of assets at all, but to me it seems that they didn't even try to be creative, literally leaving event trigger points at the same places and changing these events in the slightest possible way.
As for Rose, I just can't believe a character complaining about being bullied in the elementary school 7-8 years ago just right after a monster was literally trying to eat her face.
Yet, I by no means wish to say that people can't enjoy the DLC. It's great if they liked it, it's just the fact I didn't at all and wanted to share my opinion (though I might've been too harsh).
Those common molded face suckers she fights were new, with a new attack, the boss with 10 different faces was a cool boss fight. The throwback to previous games with the glowing crit spots I liked. It was interesting Ethan, Miranda, Eveline and memory loss Duke are still alive somehow in there. Even in that small piece. It was a well done short story I got nothin to complain about.
As of Duke, he didn't die, it was a copy made by Miranda, it's stated in some note in the last act of the DLC, so "his" appearance doesn't change anything.
Yeah they're all pretty obviously reskins but are pretty well done reskins. With new attacks even. I think all RE enemies are baitable like that. Without comparing this to anything, and it being only 20 bucks for the amount of content you get it's definitely worth it. Even though the locations were reused as well it's still all new gameplay and puzzles to do. Sure they could've redesigned everything but it'd take another year to make and be shorter. And probably cost more. Honestly I actually liked re-experiencing some of the locations with Rose and having different stuff to do. Her saying "Really!?" like Ethan did was pretty funny. Idk man I liked it.
Absolutely hated the extended Beneviento house segment. The Original Scene in Village was cool, but loses it's effectiveness on replays, but at least it's short so it's over fast on subsequent playthroughs.
You also only get full access to your powers at the very end and then the game doesn't even give you chance to play around with things later in a NG+ It would trivialize the DLC, but so does the extra content shop for the main game.
There are fun parts in the DLC, but replay ability is awful.
I tried mercenaries, and I forgot how much I hated mercenaries in this game. The new characters do nothing to make it any better. This mode sucks and I'll never play it again.
3rd person camera could have probably been done better by modders. 3rd person movement and combat feels really janky, like a massive step back from the 2 and 3 remakes. Whoever authorized this and developed this at Capcom needs a performance review. This was a huge waste of $20.
I also have to agree that it tried really hard to be Silent Hill. That was the first thing i thought of as soon as I started playing with the atmosphere and character tropes that it was trying to shove down your throat. To me, it's worse than hot garbage. It's a dumpster fire.
