DLC is a hot pile of garbage
[SPOILERS WARNING]
The post is just my personal, subjective opinion, it isn't meant to insult people who enjoyed the DLC or it's developers.
Gameplaywise, it's terrible. They literally charge you half the price of the game to explore the same locations from the original game with zero optional content (like challenge mode in Zoe's end or "Parry only" difficulty in Not a Hero) or at least optional weapons or rooms. Every single "ambush" and spawn point of enemies is predictable, there's no economy which means if the game gives you something you are to use it right now. If it gives you a grenade, you're to use it right now because five enemies have just spawned around the corner. It literally took them 1.5 years to make ONE new model of an enemy with the AI of RE2/RE3 zombie and copy-paste them all across the locations. Okay, there's actually ONE new location and it's just a cheap rip-off of Little Nightmares where you run from giant dolls. They didn't even try to implement something new. Eveline during the fight with her again does her "autistic screeching stun" from 7 and Miranda's moveset haven't changed a bit. I mean, almost all the events take place in the same places they did in the original game. When you open the door on the second floor of Dimitrescu's castle, the chase starts (with zombies instead of D's daughter), when you enter Beneviento's basement, you're again to make a preparation of a toy (instead of a mannequin) and to run away from the mannequins (instead of a baby monster) while looking for a fuse.
Storywise, it's even worse. Crappy rip-off of Silent Hill where protagonist speaks her problems out loud every 10-15 minutes. It's just like if James from SH2 would say "I want sex so badly" or "Haven't touched boobs in eternity" every time a cutscene starts. The plot and all the twists aren't just predictable, they've literally reused all of them from previous games. Miranda again uses her "illusion" trick, Eveline (never thought she could be more annoying that she was in RE7) is again being a dumb hysterical toddler and makes life harder for you and Miranda is again to be faced in the end of the DLC.
The only good thing about this abomination is a few more minutes of Ethan's screen time.
The season pass of 7 offered 2 new campaigns (Not a Hero was even free for everyone (!)), 2 small story episodes (about Clancy escaping from Margaret and Zoe trying to leave the house), 4 (!!!) new gamemodes (poker even had a story mode about Clancy), each with unique gameplay. And now they charge us half the price of the game for a 3rd person mode and a crappy story campaign taking place in the absolutely same locations of the original game and bringing zero important information to the lore.

Happily disagree, DLC is amazing.

Your comparisons to RE7's dlcs are also not fair. Re7 always had planned dlc during development of the main game, which is why they left out main plot points such as Zoe, Clancy and Lucas baker from the main game so they could use them in separate dlcs. This allowed them to plan, design and create whole new characters and areas for the dlc alongside development of the main game for like 3 years.

The thing with RE8's dlc is that there NEVER was any planned dlc AT ALL. They decided to make RE8 a complete package without leaving out plot points, no loose ends, it was only after the release of the main game and huge success that tons of players asked for DLC. This means the devs had only started to come up with the idea, write the story. design the gameplay, design the levels, enemies, characters, then animate everything, mocap and VA etc., ALL AFTER RE8's release and THEY DID THIS IN ONE YEAR.

Therefore, it makes sense they would reuse assets and characters they already have for this dlc and I think they used it pretty well imo. I enjoyed every bit of Shadows of Rose dlc.

You complain about Rose speaking out her problems well Rose is a 16 year old teen who's been bullied all the time, no surprise she would act like she does in the game, I definitely don't find her annoying at all, she acts fine to me.

Also they charge you 20 bucks not only for Shadows of Rose but also for Mercenaries Additional orders mode which added 3 new characters and several new maps. Also third person mode. Reasonable price imo.

I see your point, yet I can't agree.
From my poing of view, it doesn't change anything storywise at all. Rose has her power in the beginning -> she has it at the end, Duke becomes a villain -> turns out to be another Miranda's illusion, Eveline is alive and being a histerical unstable kid -> she lives and remains a histerical unstable kid, Miranda turns out to be "alive" -> still dies the second time at the end.
I don't actually mind any reuse of assets at all, but to me it seems that they didn't even try to be creative, literally leaving event trigger points at the same places and changing these events in the slightest possible way.
As for Rose, I just can't believe a character complaining about being bullied in the elementary school 7-8 years ago just right after a monster was literally trying to eat her face.
Yet, I by no means wish to say that people can't enjoy the DLC. It's great if they liked it, it's just the fact I didn't at all and wanted to share my opinion (though I might've been too harsh).

I think the point of the DLC was to let you meet Rose as a young lady after all the Hell Ethan went through saving her. It's not really about new locations. It being set in the Dimitrescu castle is fitting for it. It's more meant to bring back the molded antagonist characters and show how she fits into the current timeline. Just a short story to introduce Rose and the consequences of her being still connected to the Megamycete even after 16 years. Her entire personality, mannerisms and attitude were made from scratch by them and I thought they did a damn good job at it. Especially for a short story. She didn't seem "half done" at all. Couldn't really ask for a better new RE protagonist if that's the intention.

Those common molded face suckers she fights were new, with a new attack, the boss with 10 different faces was a cool boss fight. The throwback to previous games with the glowing crit spots I liked. It was interesting Ethan, Miranda, Eveline and memory loss Duke are still alive somehow in there. Even in that small piece. It was a well done short story I got nothin to complain about.

I don't think the new monsters have a new AI, it seemed to me that they act absolutely the same way the zombies did in RE2/3, they are the same way stupid enough to walk into the wall just as zombies did and they're even the same way baitable to use their grab so you can run past them.
As of Duke, he didn't die, it was a copy made by Miranda, it's stated in some note in the last act of the DLC, so "his" appearance doesn't change anything.

Yeah they're all pretty obviously reskins but are pretty well done reskins. With new attacks even. I think all RE enemies are baitable like that. Without comparing this to anything, and it being only 20 bucks for the amount of content you get it's definitely worth it. Even though the locations were reused as well it's still all new gameplay and puzzles to do. Sure they could've redesigned everything but it'd take another year to make and be shorter. And probably cost more. Honestly I actually liked re-experiencing some of the locations with Rose and having different stuff to do. Her saying "Really!?" like Ethan did was pretty funny. Idk man I liked it.

I don't mind people liking it, it's great if it brought positive emotions to people, it's just the fact it didn't do it to me.

Perception is relative to mindset too maybe try it again when you're in a better mood. My ex and I tried to watch that movie Kung Pow and we're both like wtf this's the stupidest thing I've ever seen then went and had some :re0greenherb: came back and it was hilarious.

I like the First Part in the Castle, but later you have to hide and use Powers, no shooting action, too much Cutscenes....... The final Part is more like a walking Simulator and the "Fight" against Evelyin is Crap.
Peelsepuuppi Oct 30, 2022 @ 2:59am
Hot pile of garbage is a bit strong, but definitely not that great. There are way too many walking sim sections where you do nothing and are barely engaged at all with any meaningful gameplay, that's not going to be fun on replays.

Absolutely hated the extended Beneviento house segment. The Original Scene in Village was cool, but loses it's effectiveness on replays, but at least it's short so it's over fast on subsequent playthroughs.

You also only get full access to your powers at the very end and then the game doesn't even give you chance to play around with things later in a NG+ It would trivialize the DLC, but so does the extra content shop for the main game.

There are fun parts in the DLC, but replay ability is awful.

Kinda agree that I might've been too harsh. But after 7, it's season pass (which is one of the reasons 7 is in my personal top 3 in the whole series) and the original campaign of 8 I had GREAT expectations. And Rose's campaign completely did not live up to them. They could've at least add a tiny bit of additional content after the first walkthrough, maybe some challenges like in End of Zoe. At the worst, at least add NG+ with all abilities unlocked from the very beginning, maybe add a weapon or two from the original campaign. But they didn't do even this small thing.

Your iginoing the other 2/3s of the entire dlc? You act like SHadows of Rose is 20 dollars but thats just flat out not true. You also get thrid person, new weapon mods, the merc updates.

Totally agree with you, it was a big disappointment
RaidenFury Oct 30, 2022 @ 1:44pm
I have to agree. This was a huge waste of $20. The Shadow of Rose was the most uninspired thing I've ever played. I can't say anythin good about it. It was painful to play through.

I tried mercenaries, and I forgot how much I hated mercenaries in this game. The new characters do nothing to make it any better. This mode sucks and I'll never play it again.

3rd person camera could have probably been done better by modders. 3rd person movement and combat feels really janky, like a massive step back from the 2 and 3 remakes. Whoever authorized this and developed this at Capcom needs a performance review. This was a huge waste of $20.

I also have to agree that it tried really hard to be Silent Hill. That was the first thing i thought of as soon as I started playing with the atmosphere and character tropes that it was trying to shove down your throat. To me, it's worse than hot garbage. It's a dumpster fire.

I too agree. I was disappointed. There was no point and it wasn't even real to boot.
