You have NO proof VR sickness cannot be overcome or that everyone cannot overcome it.
then prove to me you can overcome vr motion sickness and end the argument.
Unfortuneately, only time can prove it. Time and FOV.

You see.

There's this thought out there that increasing tunnel vision while moving lessens motion sickness. But I experience the exact opposite effect whenever I transition into a higher FOV HMD like a pimax.

My theory is that most motion sickness caused by VR, isn't from the disconnect of seeing yourself move without moving, but rather watching colors shifting across pixels with the combination of an extremely limited FOV and right now, everyone thinks limiting the FOV further is a solution to motion sickness. When ultimately your just closing your eyes to avoid it.

Imagine walking around in daily life staring through a pair of those cardboard toilet paper tubes and that's what mainstream VR is right now.

a 4080 + Pimax 12k, if the eye tracking can live up to the claims of providing accurate IPD calibration could be a game changer.

TL:DR
As Resolution, Refresh and FOV go up, motion sickness goes down.

it's rare you see a pathetic argument go on this long about something pointless, amazing.

Re: Motion sickness:

I'm a medical professional who uses vr.

Motion sickness is the brain's discomfort with things not matching up e.g. you're upside down in VR and yet your balance sensors are saying you are right way up. Your brain is reacting to uncertainty.

Or, VR frame rate drops / movement lag when you turn your head / low resolution.

For some, that is just about being in VR. Eyes are saying it is real, logic is saying it is not = uncertainty. Brain says "don't like this, stop".

Evolutionary man had only one explanation for senses and logic not matching up - they'd ingested something toxic. Thus nausea & "motion" sickness.

The trick is to keep going gradually and push yourself to continue for longer each time. Show your brain it isn't dangerous. Nausea doesn't lead to vomiting for the vast majority. Vomiting has evolved out as the brain's response to danger.

Remember that exactly the same argument was levelled at the introduction of "3d cards" 30 years ago. Everyone got motion sickness. Look it up if you don't believe me.

They are only suggestions and there is no guarantee that any of them will work.

Also, I wouldnt recommend anyone taking drugs as those search results suggested. Thats just not healthy and side effects are pretty bad.

I guess [-iD-] won the argument by default as the other user has unfortunately been banned and can no longer prove anything.

I suppose it was also the same with cars and trains and planes.

Right, there are tons of people who have used those methods to overcome VR motion sickness. Methods have been proven but yeah he wins by default. Enjoy your pancakes!

Yes, the trick to keep going and gradually use it for longer periods of time. Know as getting your VR legs. Google VR legs pancake gamers. You will see what I mean.

maybe, maybe not, you have a good theory but the other apparently tested theory of needing a vibration by your inner ear to prevent it means it is a disconnect. and thats gonna be like 4000 usd in technology. that doesn't bode well for adaption rate of vr. scaling it down is impossible and forget phone replacement.
DAN-di-WARhol 2022 年 6 月 6 日 下午 11:50
I only had motion sickness for around the first 10 hours of play. I don't know of many people who have had it worse than that.

The only time I had it recently (last 5 years) is when a game had me as an astronaut upside down. Not for me.

Also: if a guy was banned for spouting harmful superstitions about VR and getting angry and abusive with people who have the facts (and use VR daily), he kind of deserves it.

with i7-7700k, GTX 1080 and 16gb RAM, what performance can I expect in VR?
DAN-di-WARhol 2022 年 6 月 7 日 上午 6:27
You'd be fine running a low res headset like the vive or the Oculus. High res headsets like the vive pro 2 or HP reverb G2 will struggle.

You can always scale the resolution back to boost performance, but I'd say the 1080 is good enough to handle the pressure.
