WHY THE ♥♥♥♥ DID THIS WIN STEAM AWARDS GAME OF THE YEAR? (and a possible answer)
This won Steam Awards Game of the Year 2021. Not Dread Templar, not Hell Let Loose, not Psychonauts 2, but this. The worst entry in the mainline franchise since Resident Evil 6.

The game that failed at its job as sequel to VII with dropped plot points like the Contractors and Blue Umbrella.
The game that wasted two of my favourite characters (Chris Redfield and Mia Winters) in different ways respectively.
The game that took a dump on established franchise rules by having the main monsters, the Four Lords, use fantasy superpowers.
The game where in a macguffin hunt took centre stage over mystery and intrigue.
The game that retconned aspects of how the mold works.
The game that gleefully rendered every other entry in the series pointless and rendered the horrors that everyone endured in their struggle to end the threat of Bio Organic Weaponry all for nothing just to introduce a superpowered hero a la ALICE (Rose Winters).

All I have to say is: YOU VILLAGE FANS ARE BRAINLESS SHEEP! Yes, the gameplay is good, but the story was so atrocious, absurd, insulting, nihilistic and franchise-killing that my tolerance for this game receiving any praise at all is at zero. I say this as a fan of VII, by the way. I say this as someone who was born in 2000, too. YOU. PEOPLE. ARE. SHEEP.
P.S. I see you guy trying to invoke the "Trash the Classics" defence on VII. Don't even think about it.

I don't agree with some of those points, especially Mia Winters being a favorite of yours?? But yeah, that's marketing and popularity for you. RE8 failed to understand what made the other games work. It tried to copy RE1's formula, like 7, but failed hilariously at it. They tried to copy 4's mechanics and once again failed to understand what made it work for that game (and RE5 and even 6 to some extent).
RE7 wasn't a perfect game, but it tried to modernize the original formula and it wasn't too awful at it. RE8 just feels like a dozen steps back.

Btw "superpowers" are nothing new. Sherry had insanely fast regeneration for example. The lords' powers are also all explained. What doesn't make sense is how said lords use their powers. Especially Heisen is a joke. In cutscenes he overpowers you time and time again while in the fight he's helpless.

But yeah, popular/shilled products win awards, nothing new sadly.

No the powers weren't. If they were, then it's clear the Mold never did this stuff in VII.

Also, the reason Sherry had regeneration was the Devil vaccine from 2. But this should be forgotten about, as 6 was being treated as broadstrokes by the franchise after its disastrous reception among fans. Then there's Wesker's "superpowers": speed, agility, and strength. Stuff believable in the Resident Evil universe (before 6 and ESPECIALLY Village botched it, that is).
Nice to see you agree with me on this one.

Did what stuff? RE7's mold and the BOWs aren't really linked. RE7 was just mold and Eveline as BOW developed from it. RE8's enemies are all experiments from those parasites that were infected with the mold. So 7 had moldy people and 8 had heavily experimented on creatures and people. I have no clue how you can call Wesker's powers "believable", alongside probably 4's parasites, but suddenly 8 goes too far?

Boulder punching was the highlight?

Criticisms that you're making for the newest game aren't allowed to be applied to older games, why?

Blue Umbrella and Contractors being dropped was weird, but whatever, I don't really play RE for the story cause the story has always been awful.

Yeah... Because in 8 they were implanted with cadous, and the mold in 8 is where the mold in 7 came from, the mold in 7 is genetically similar but not the same. How do you not know this?

So the canon reason for Sherry having "superpowers" is acceptable but the canon reason why the bosses in 8 have "superpowers" is not acceptable to you? Why?

Uhh, what "superpowers" that are so unbelievable do the new bosses have that weren't in 1-5?

Gaming Generation Z idiot is Gaming Generation Z Idiot. Complete with "Trashing the Classics" by saying "The Story has always been awful", Even though the franchise started with much better writing and only began to suck when 4 eliminated Umbrella in an opening prologue.
This is exactly the kind of reaction I was expecting.

Psychonauts 2 got horribly ripped this year.

So much creativity, such good writing, so much originality. No awards.

RE8, FH5 and Deathloop winning any awards is just a complete joke. I get It takes Two, as at least that was doing something different.

Seems people don't want original or different, they just want a faster horse.

Eveline had psychic, mind control powers in RE 7 and the final boss of CV had pyrokinesis... just sayin'.

Also why do you have a Village profile pic if you hate it so much? Is this supposed to be a sarcastic thread intended to mock the 100 other threads that are just like this one?

Definitely not! And you know why? It's not the few fancy words the OP used in his/her wall of text. Neither OP's clear superiority among us "sheep". The most important thing is that OP used caps in the thread's title, so OP is clearly right. Don't be a sheep, be like OP.

Tbh she probably had less psychic powers and it was most likely more just transmission via mold spores. The entire estate was covered in mold. I haven't played CV, but either way psychic powers cross into the heavy fiction/fantasy section. Breaking basic laws (viral potency) or even thermodynamics is fine, but straight up magic goes too far.

Not a zoomer, played the originals, with exception to 1 cause the tank controls sucked on the original version, as a kid. The story always sucked. Calling me an idiot for acknowledging that is kinda sad tbh.
