Why does everyone speak English with a general American accent?

No spoilers, but is there a lore reason why everyone in this remote village in Romania speaks American English without even the slightest hint of a Romanian accent? Is it like MGS3 where in universe they're speaking Romanian, but for the player's sake it just sounds like English? Or were the developers just not interested in selling the atmosphere at all?

While it doesn't really bother me one way or the other, it would be cool to have more setting-related accents.

good question, but I guess it's one of those " it doesn't have to make sense " type things / suspend your disbelief. They did nail some of the aesthetics of Romanian villages out there, but I still LOL hard when the characters mispronounce lady D's name..

Same reason everyone spoke English in RE4. You could think of it as Ethan speaking Romanian, but for our convinience it's translated into English.
