I actually agree with this, my only issue is that alot of them don't look like they belong in a RE game.
Heisenberg, the tall lady, the K-pop puppeteer idol the werewolves and the final boss look like they belong more into a final fantasy game than a RE one.
Intimidating, yes? scary? not in the slightest.
RE8 feels like it takes a lot from RE4 aesthetically.
I Personally disagree, Re4 had me scared and disgusted at almost every corner of the game.
The experience was filled by threatening insect/alien like creatures inhabiting infected humans.
Most of the terror i felt in RE4 was instilled by the terror of the possibility of being infected by a very deforming/parasitic entity.
That put into my mind the very compelling priority of trying to keep enemies the ♥♥♥♥ away from me.
By seeing/experiences the consequences in this game, Mold feels more a nanomachine betterment/boost of the human condition and that is displayed throught most of this game's enemies and bosses.
Something that's able to make you more attractive/invincible while also being a very ability boosting pro to have.
The only disgusting thing i've really seen in this game is the hunchback guy that turns into the fish from re4 .
That results in you not being scared or compelled to avoid the consequences.
Matter of fact most of the main infected looked gorgeous and even felt like they obtained non-disfiguring powers from it.
There is no possible way you could have enticed/convinced me to be infected by "las plagas" on purpose but i can definitely see no main issue with being infected by the mold.
It's just feels like a boost.
That stuff is neither gross looking or scary, it's just feels like shapeshifting parasitic bunch of nanomachines.
And that why nothing in this game is actually scary.
( baby fetus it's creepy but overall doesn't count because it's not real and it's just an hallucination)
Oh god, if this game had had QTEs I'd have refunded in an instant.
Had a similar experience with the original Resident Evil. I was just a little kid and the game legitimately terrified me. I could only play it if I had a friend over to play it with me. I think one of the reasons the newer games are less scary (besides the fact that I'm much older) has to do with the combat. It's hard to make me afraid of enemies when I have a grenade launcher for 3/4s of the game.
The point is, they're not scary enough, nor persistent as any " necromorph like" infected you had in Re4
The bakers is a different case because the girl was an imperfect and couldn't control the mold.
I understand your concern, but i assure you, it still feels disgusting and i equally feel repulsed by re 4 enemies as i once was the first time i played the game.
Gross parasitic/tentacular insect like aliens are more compelling than werewolves and gaping dragons.
Again to me, a good parallel that kept going through my mind while i was playing RE4 was dead space's necromorphs.
This game has close to nothing like it.
And i deeply feel, even if only the top villains got cool powers out of it, being a werewolf or a vampire like creature doesn't amount to me being scared.
If they were to brutally contort and sprout a long parasitic alien like creature out of their neck/appendages i would be both disgusted, scared and furthermore compelled to avoid being infected.
While considering all of this, i also kept in mind/check my possible bias with my first game in the series too.
If you really feel scared, there's no bias that holds in your opinion, plus, i've also explained you exactly why and how it felt/feels different.
You could also make the argument that someone might be deathly afraid of clowns or possessed dolls.
That would be faily subjective bias.
I don't feel anyone in the right mind would feel attracted by the prospect of having their body contorted and distorted into a very disgusting alien mess of a parasite-controlled being.
The mold just doesn't feel scary at all, werewolves, vampires, ghosts and gaping dragons neither.
Or at least, not in the way they were shown in this game, it looked more cool than frightening.
This type of "cool design" for bosses or enemies ( that works definitely better in something like Bllodborne, dark souls or final fantasy) might be a pro in any other game, but in an horror game based on zombie viruses and parasitic entities, it's a gigantic flaw imho.
This definitely felt more like an fps Bloodborne-like rather than a RE game.
Stuff like this tends to just yank the player out of the immersion too.
