However, after RE5, Capcom has been rather poor with how their games handle on pc and their support.
RE7 had you crashing in certain parts of the game due problems with CPU instructions for AMD users. Go down the part of the house where the canal is, and the game would crash. Do it on an Intel one, it wouldnt. SSE problems. Capcom never patched it until months after the release, which left a really bad impression on me for a company I loved for years.
RE2 remake was good, but it felt out of depth. I loved the original RE2 for everything plus the way they immersed you in the experience. Lore was available to the player and you could interact with a lot of things in the environment before, but RE2 remake traded that for more action oriented play. Biggest gripe of the game was the absence of the much loved Battle mode. Ghost Survivors? Really? Ugh.
RE3 though. MY GOD. RE3 was my favorite game of all time, and THEY RUINED IT. Cutting out a lot of the story and content made me really hate the experience I paid the full price for during the time. Since it played similarly to RE2 remake and I did play the demo a lot, I finished the game in less than 90 mins and REFUNDED it. Normally, I wouldn't ever dream of doing this, but for once it felt like giving Capcom the middle finger and I FELT DAMN GOOD DOING IT. No regrets.
I didn't listen to my gut feeling to not buy RE Village at first, so I did. I finished the game THRU ALL THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STUTTERS. I keep it because it is actually a good game if only they MADE IT RUN RIGHT ON PC. I still play it thru the mercs mode at times, but had to put it down due to the crashes. Try going to Village 2 first map on mercs mode and you get a crash. Get grabbed by a hot vampire chick? Mass slowdown. GG. My god, I waited and waited for a patch, but as usual, what do you expect from Capcom?
It's sad. I loved the company for years. I still do love the RE series by heart, but I wish they'd give it the love it deserves. Diehard fans like us may love RE, but even we have our limits on how much BS we're willing to put up with on support.
But uh, putting that tangent aside, it really is a tough sell knowing that Capcom doesn't give a crap about their own product and refused to fix the Denuvo/Stuttering issue or even Implement a proper FoV etc..
Thankfully there's already a mod to utilize the empress fix here, but yeah it really shouldn't be up to the community to fix the problems.
Also what's with the weird positivity flowing from the (banned) OP's post? It is supposed to be a weird bait and switch despite the shortcomings of the commercial release?
Good to know I'm not the only one that never saw RE 4 as some messianic pinnacle of the series. It was indeed just a gateway that lead downhill.
That aside, I will probably keep an eye out for the next RE title, I mean I am this far in and have played nearly every RE entry since the first back in the 90s (minus the crappy lightgun entry) I see no reason to preorder though. It's not as if there won't be plenty of copies when the game releases or something. I never cared for pointless preorder baubles either.
The only thing that irks me about the predatory pre-order practices is locking the day-1 difficulty modes behind them - I had fun playing Madhouse/Hardcore/Nightmare/Village of Shadows in these as my first blind runs so far (well..maybe not Village of Shadows as much.. was very bulletspongey and unfair...) so that will be missed.
Probably broke the forum rules.
Especially w/o iron sighting! You cant have a fps and not have that. Very stupid.
