Game ignores Resolution and Screen Mode

I have an ultrawide display but use standard widescreen when playing some games. The game refuses to go into windowed mode, every time I try it just snaps back to fullscreen right away. Also if I change the fullscreen resolution, it just stretches the picture out rather than displaying in the proper aspect ratio.

Further, I tried changing the display resolution to widescreen in the operating system. The game still starts in ultrawide and forces an ultrawide resolution in borderless mode. I'll be fine because I can hook up to a different display, but this is kind of frustrating....

You should try out these tools at https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Little_Hope. With a program called Flawless Widescreen the problem can be solved. It's not easy, but with a little hope and patient, it worked for me. Note: Flawless Widescreen has to run in the background while you play the game.
