The ending literally made the game just mediocre.
I loved the game until the ending and the big reveal of how this is just a dream- that was just dumb and there is no point of anything, because its just some guy's PTSD.

Kinda, yeah. I'm glad I held off from buying it and just watched it. I'll probably buy it in a bundle or something once the whole anthology is out but on its own I don't think this game stands very well. Also, not only does that ending feel cheap, that's pretty much what was the twist in the first game - no monsters are real, nothing actually supernatural happening. Which makes me think the next game is going to have the same idea which makes it hard to take it seriously.
I bought Man Of Medan on launch and while I liked the game, I felt like it was not worth 30 euros. Was afraid Little Hope might feel the same and, unfortunately, seems like i was not wrong. Like I said, I do plan to pick up the whole anthology when it's out and discounted, there is some fun to be had with these games, just not at full price...

There is also a problem with writing, in my opinion. At the beginning, in the bar when that Vincent(?) guy awkwardly yells out "there is no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ us" I immidiately thought the plottwist is going to be that the group of people is not real in some way.

It would have been okay if it was a different game in a different series. I don't think this kind of story is well suited for this kind of gameplay. It would be a better fit in a walking simulator style horror game like Layers of Fear.

it sucks because the story otherwise is pretty solid

I watched a stream where they botched all the QTE's and nothing happened story wise.... so yeah.... Until Dawn this is not.

I liked the Ending personally. Much better than Man of Medan. Just imagine being the only survivor of a house fire, watching your family die and there was literally nothing more you could do than watch it all. Having that guilt follow you through your life. It sure would have some psychological effects. That is the personal horror that character was plagued with and you played through that character and other characters stories living or not. Really was put together nicely. The horror of that massacre of Salem witch trials, just brutal to those who lived it. Just think of being accused of something so easily and being condemned to death for it. What life would that be to live there paranoid any wrong move could send the wrong signal to whom ever and you are instantly slaughtered, killed or drowned. You could be accused of practising witch craft in an instant, even if a neighbour didn't like how your plants looked that day. Then by association your family could be considered practising and sentenced to death or your friends. what if your friends turned their back on you and condemned you to death so they could save their own lives. Not only that having to rely on word of mouth only testimonies and begging and pleading to save yourself or your loved one and have that fall on deaf ears. All cuz someone said they saw something they didn't or made something up because they didn't like you. That is fear inducing. 1692 version of a Karen but with more dire consequences.

They had a good story going. They had characters that you could come to like and care for. Fighting for their lives against their past doppelgangers. Then they take everything away from you with the ending they went with. Your choices don't matter because the characters don't exist except one. The entire situation with the witch trial portions and the ghouls. All fake. Never happened.

They ruined a good story with the same trick they pulled twice.

It would have been a good story if it was a longer, more fleshed out game on it's own. The witch trial parts were cool but with the games ending they felt like they didn't really pay off and were out of place, since it turns out that it had nothing to do with the characters involved in the game because they weren't even real.
Also, according to the intro the girl set fire to the house because a demon(?) told her to, but then the main character (eyebrows kid) for some reason was sitting on the lawn with a matchbox in hand looking all guilty which made him get accused of setting fire. He runs into the house (house completeley on fire), there is a funeral with a pastor saying "at least the family died together" only for it to be revealed that no, the kid somehow survived running into the burning house and the whole family did not in fact die together. Am I the only one seeing narrative issues with that story writing?

I mean your point to want a longer fleshed out game on it's own is valid. That's your personal preference and it's okay. One point would be, if you are playing an 8 to 12 hour movie night with your friends. It might be a little much in one sitting. 4.5 to 5 hours playing a story is long enough, but that's just my opinion. I believe these were meant as short stories. Not a full fledged until dawn, but I could be wrong at the intent of them.

The point where you stated "because they weren't even real". It's how you felt and again that's okay as it is just us trying to make sense of what happened. It's what you took away from the story which is not wrong. What I felt is.. there were different era's of the same people who actually lived those moments and either died or survived. They all were interacting with each other through the different time lines ((alive or dead)). They interacted with themselves either hindering or helping their previous past lives. While they might not have lived in the bus driver/kid who ran away from the fire's grown up self mind. That was the psychological horror part. They at one point did live together as a group of students being chased by those demons which manifested and kept attempting to kill them in the same or similar fashion by drawing them to little hope to endure that same fate. It drew people enough to care to save them and if it was real to you at the time before the twist and then shown that they manifested in a crazy persons mind. Well you just started to believe in the world that crazy person was interacting with. So you got a taste of what it is like to actually hallucinate in a mentally unstable persons mind.

As far as the funeral, sure, I can agree saying "at least the family died together" being a bit plot holeish as it wasn't the full family who perished from my understanding. I also agree that Man of Medan was riddled with plot holes too. The game isn't perfect, but it certainly was good none the less. Much better improvement from Man of Medan at least.

I actually like the story. The ending works and is pretty thought provoking. my issue isn't that they took the story this way, it's that they did it right after doing something similar in Man of Medan. i'm probably going to buy House of Ashes when it comes out, but unfortunately, i'll be expecting some twist the whole time that turns the monsters/demons or whatever into just figments of someone's imagination. I just think it's a bad call to do the "It's all in your head" thing 2 times in a row

Story was great, albeit im a bit biased since I was born in in Salem where the witch trials happened. However, like Man of Medan this whole "it's all in your head" crap gets boring real quick. House of Ashes better have some real actual horror and not some oh these soldiers are just suffering from PTSD crap.
Yeah, horrible ending. Overused. It's like come on, be a bit more original. :(
